Wildrose Provincial Stream Qualifier Meet 2014 February 28 - March 2, 2014
The Nova Synchro Club welcomes all athletes, coaches, chaperones, families, judges and officials to the 2014 Wildrose Provincial Stream Qualifier. We are excited to see the hard work the swimmers have put into their Figures and Routines. We extend a special THANK YOU to all of the officials and the many volunteers from NOVA Synchro. We would especially like to thank all the volunteers who came to our rescue and helped make this competition a success. Without the many volunteers willing to give their time it would be impossible to organize and host a synchronized swimming event. Organizing Committee:

Come stop by to see the photos at our booth Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. I am also selling a synchro card game that I have created - it's a lot of fun and I think synchro swimmers will agree!

Synchronized Swimming Fun Facts The origin of synchronized swimming dates back to the Royal Life Saving Society’s
aquatic demonstration in Montreal in 1929. Synchronized swimming was one of the two female-only sports at the London 2012
Olympics. The pool bottom is off-limits during performances. Instead, synchronized swimmers must
continuously tread water in an eggbeater fashion to free up the arms and make the illusion that they are comfortably standing. Touching the bottom results in a two-point deduction.
Synchronized swimming was exhibited as a demonstration sport in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics.
Underwater speakers allow the athletes to hear their routine music underwater.

Synchronized Swimming Fun Facts Synchronized swimming was given full medal status at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Synchronized swimmers use Gelatin to keep their hair in place during their routines. It is a
common kitchen ingredient used for cooking and baking. It has 0% Fats and Carbohydrates, 5 calories and 1 gram of protein.
Nose plugs may be worn to keep the water out of the nose while the athlete is under the water.

Synchronized Swimming Fun Facts Synchro routines require incredible core strength. Routines incorporate twists, pointed
toes, splits, lifts, boosts, throws, static positions, and sculling. It is a combination of aerobic exercise done above the water level and anaerobic exercise done below the water level. The team motto of one of Nova’s teams last year was, “breathing is a privilege, not a right!” Don’t forget, this is all done while smiling, with perfect hair and makeup and with grace.
Synchronized swimmers are thought to practice more than most other Olympic athletes. They can spend up to 6 days a week, 8 hours a day (6 hours in the water and 2 hours cross-training). These women are fit and strong.
Synchronized swimming is known as a life-long sport, enjoyed by children and seniors alike.

Nova Synchronized Swim Club Trivia In 2013 the Nova Synchro Swim Club celebrated its 25th Anniversary.
The Nova Synchro Swim Club was founded in 1988 by its first Head Coach Marnie MacDougall and by the generous hearts and hands of many parent volunteers.
The Nova Synchro Swim Club’s founding vision was a club where girls of all ages and experience could enjoy the sport of synchronized swimming in programs offering challenge and fun.
The name Nova was chosen, as it was once one of the required figure elements in team.
Nova’s team colours are red, white and black.
Nova Synchro’s logo was designed by Cheryl Hoyles, one of Nova’s first swimmers. It represents a stylized synchronized swimming figure in the shape ‘N’ and is red for Nova’s main team colour.
Nova also means a very bright star, which is exactly how we see each of our athletes.
The Nova Synchro Swim Club offers its athletes strong coaching synchronized swimming skills, as well as training in nutrition, ballet, sports psychology, rhythmic gymnastics and speed swimming.
On November 30, 2013, Nova Synchro celebrated its first Sports Day in Canada Event and Capital Region Figures Meet with Canadian National Team member Gabriella Brisson, and other regional clubs.
Nova Synchro offers recreational programs and competitive programs including: Learn to Synchro, 10 years and under, 12 years and under, Novice (11-15 years), 13-15 years and 16-18 years. Nova also offers solos and duets in each competitive age groups.
Many former Nova Synchro Swim Club members have gone on to swim at National, University and Master’s competition levels.
Many Nova Synchro Swim Club former athletes have chosen to develop their skills as coaches and judges.
The Nova Synchro Swim Club is your host club for the 2014 Wildrose Provincial Stream Qualifier.
In June 2014, The Nova Synchro Swim Club will award the 1st Annual Laura Mumme Swimmer Development Scholarship to an applicant registered as a Nova Synchro Swimmer, in an effort support continued development and education of Nova’s synchronized swimmers.
Nova Synchro hosts various Synchronized Swimming summer camps at various levels of ability, open to all. Please watch our website www.novasynchro.org for more information.
Please contact www.novasynchro.org for more information on any questions you may have regarding our club. We take pride in the fact that our website is updated regularly.

group and multiplied by 10. Any penalties are then deducted. This result is multiplied by 50%
2) ROUTINES:
