The Monkey KingA troop of monkeys lived in the jungle. The Monkey King saw a mango tree by the stream.
Downstream was a castle where the Man King lived. If man discovered the mangos there would
be trouble. The monkeys pulled all of the mangos off the tree.
The monkeys had not noticed the last mango. It fell into the river and floated downstream...
The Man King found the tasty mango. “Go to the jungle and find me more of these tasty
mangos!” he told his soldiers.
The soldiers saw the monkeys eating the mangos. They attacked the monkeys. The monkeys ran
down to the stream. There was no escape!
The Monkey King had a plan. He held a branch of the mango tree. Then he held a vine on the
other side of the stream. The other monkeys scrambled over the body of the Monkey King to the
other side of the river. The Monkey King was badly hurt.
“Go and help him,” said the Man King. The soldiers carried the Monkey King over to him. “Why
did you save those monkeys?” asked the Man King.
“Because I am their king,” replied the Monkey King.
