The WHEEL Co-op (revised 01/2012)(Warrior Homeschoolers Earnestly Educating for the Lord)

The symbol of the Wheel is evidenced in God as the center; we are the spokes and as we work together for the Lord, the

    WHEEL turns. :o)Page 1 of 4

    Statement of Faith and Purpose

As fellow believers in Jesus Christ, this homeschool cooperative was formed as an

outgrowth of our belief that training our children is a mandate and privilege from God,

believing that our children can benefit from our combined experience and knowledge, as

we seek to please the Lord.Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.

We believe that the Bible in its entirety is the inspired Word of the One and Only God.

Salvation and relationship with God come through Gods Son, Jesus Christ. Weencourage our families to actively pursue growing in knowledge, faith and service of our

Lord God to glorify Him and be ourselves encouraged. Is 44:6, 2Peter1:21, Eph 1:17

We will each commit to reflecting a Christian (Biblical) worldview in our classes. We

will strive to balance academic expectations with the understanding that each of

our students is a unique creation of God, designed for His purposes and plans. Therefore,

our ultimate educational goal is preparing them for His purposes, and not so much

reproducing a traditional school atmosphere.1 Timothy 1:5 The goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and asincere faith.

DISCIPLINE AND CHARACTERPage 2 of 4

Students need to use classroom manners: Respect your teachers, raise your hand to speak-

-- Make your teachers job pleasant!!

Because parents generally prefer to deal personally with discipline problems in their ownchildren, it is important to keep one another informed when issues arise. All parents areencouraged to communicate to the students parent when they notice a student havingbehavioral difficulties.

Any student who disrupts class repeatedly will be corrected. First, the teacher will take

the student aside and inform him that his behavior is unacceptable. If the disruptions

continue that same day, the child will be removed from the class and taken to his parent if

available. If the parent is teaching, the child will be taken to the floater parent to sit forthe remainder of the class unless the adult deems the child is ready to cooperate again.

Proverbs 20:11 Even a child is known by his deeds, whether what he does is pure and right..

Our co-op should be an enjoyable experience for our kids, so all classes should be orderly

and the teachers should expect respect from the kids.

Teachers should strive to make God and His Biblical principles the center of the classroom.Beginning or ending your class time with prayer is encouraged.

As adults, let us start this co-op off right, being gracious to one another as we learn and growtogether. May we be patient with one another when mistakes are made, showing a forgivingand Christ-like attitude, full of grace and gratitude toward one another. Let us seek peacefulresolution and not sow discord.

Should conflicts arise, please handle privately and Biblically, trying to resolve the issuebetween you and the other person. Do not give in to gossip. If the conflict cannot beresolved, please see Amy or Leah. If there is a grievance about any aspect of co-op, pleasework to resolve it between the parties involved. If this does not bring resolution, see Amy or

    Leah.

Barring a family illness or similar emergency, registration in co-op is a promise to the other families thatyour commitment to be there will be honored. If a sudden illness or move results in withdrawal, class feeswill be forfeited. WHEEL also asks for a month notice if possible.

Do not share emails and phone numbers with anyone outside of co-op. Your childs picture may end up on the new WHEEL Blog . If you are opposed to this, please let

Leah/Amy know before the school year begins. Changing classes mid year: Please arrange it with the teacher. Both teacher and parent must agree to

    this.Teacher Guidelines:

Expect respect from your students. Be Godly and be fun. Make it fun/interesting for yourself and yourstudents! Expect help from your assistant(s)! Give them things to do, whether helping a child to stopinterrupting or helping with a craft or clean up.

    2nd

grade and under: Students should be accompanied to the bathroom or water fountain by the assistant.

Establish a routine for communicating weekly homework assignments to the parents -this is especially important for K-3 and even some older elementary as they learn how to be responsible in thisarea. Teachers should e-mail assignments or be sure the students wrote the assignment in their notebooks.

Leave time for children to clean up after class before moving to next class. Being frugal. If you need supplies for your class that others might have at home, ask the other co-op

members before charging the families for the supplies. Have a plan for your class, but be flexible according to the needs of the families you are teaching.IE: You

plan to grade the students and then find out the parents of those particular students do not want gradedworkgo with the flow and dont grade it. Parents be understanding and grateful for the hard work of theteachers.

We are from a variety of denominations, so are bound to have some doctrinal differences. Keeping ourstatement of faith and purpose in mind, lets leave the doctrin al education to the home/parents, butparents may feel free to discuss their faith with one another, as this is encouraged Biblically!

There is a copier at the church building. We would rather not have to use it. If you only need one morecopy or just a few it may be used at .10 a copy. Please plan to make the bulk of your copies elsewhere.

We are mostly new to this co-op business, so please be understanding if your childs teacher charges$5.00 for supplies in September, but then realizes she may need a bit more by January. Teachers: doyour best to charge any fees accurately, so as not to be a burden to each other.

Teacher assessments have been discussed in the past. They are not required. If a parent wants info ontheir childrens behavior or learning style in the co-op classroom, that parent is encouraged to talk to theteachers of her children.

CLEAN UP: Each teacher and student are responsible to clean up after themselves during class time.Families will each take a turn on a cleaning rotation to do final clean up/check and lights out checks each week.High school students are responsible for emptying ALL classroom trashcans at the end of the day.All can be involved in the service of cleaning. If you see a piece of trash on the floor, pick it up and throw it away.Lets leave things neat and clean.LOST AND FOUND: Items left behind should be placed in the HOMESCHOOL CO-OP totes or shelves in thedesignated storage area.INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY: WHEEL will follow cancellations for Augusta CountySchools.
