What’s on at Tynwald 2013Take Part in Art!This year, make sure that you Take Part in Art and put your creativestamp on Tynwald Day 2013 by heading over to the Bunscoill (oppo-site the front green). Help to create a Viking longboat or the Celticgod of the sea, Manannan, in our mosaic workshop run by ElaineEdge. Gavin Carter is back to give children another opportunity totry their hand at woodcarving and help to make a wooden throne fitfor Manannan himself! Or maybe you would like to have your facepainted with the three legs of Mann? Jo Callister will be on hand to help you look the part on Tynwald Day. These activities are all free of charge, so please take part and help us to celebrate and commemorate our national day.
Visiting musiciansExcitingly, there is an international element to the entertainmentthis year. The visiting Llanrwst Welsh male voice choir has kindlyjoined the programme in the Royal Chapel. We also are delighted tobe welcoming ‘And Sometimes Y, Manx, Morris and Sword’, a dancegroup from Western Massachusetts. They will be performing on thefront green for us, so be sure to come along and give them a warmManx welcome.
Circus workshopsCooil y Ree is the location for circus skills workshops, run by The PlayPeople. We are delighted to welcome them back to St John’s with performances and walkabouts to entertain young and old. Theirevening fire show provides a spectacular and fitting end to the day’scelebrations. If you tire of tightrope walking and plate spinning whilstyou’re down in Cooil y Ree, why not brush up on your Manx folklorewith tales of magic and mischief in Sue Woolley’s storytelling tent.
Evening EntertainmentKippercaillie will be taking the reins for the ceili this year. It reallydoesn’t matter if you have never taken part in a ceili before, come andjoin in the fun, no experience necessary! And if all that dancing makesyou feel hungry, the Quines from Ballakilley will be showcasing localproduce with a hog roast. The evening ends with an atmosphericperformance on Tynwald Hill by Ellan Vannin Pipes and Drums, followed by the Play People’s pyrotechnic showcase of skill and daring!
An Island wide bus service will ensure you get home after the festivities and there will once again be an additional late night busservice to the South, terminating in Port St Mary. For more travelinformation, visit www.iombusandrail.info
