Welcome I extend a warm and whole-hearted welcome this week to all students, their families and our staff, as we embark on a new school year here at Kandos Public School. We welcome all new enrolments to Kandos Public School, particularly the Kindergarten students who commenced their schooling last Friday, 1st February. Thank you to all the Year 6 buddies of our Kindergarten students. Many friendships have already been formed with many special moments and memories being experienced by Kindergarten over the past few days. I also take this opportunity to give a warm welcome to two new teachers at Kandos Public School. Miss Abbie Muscat is our 4/5 Lyrebirds teacher. Welcome I extend a warm and whole-hearted welcome this week to all students, their

families and our staff, as we embark on a new school year here at Kandos

Public School.

Footpaths Mowed - 7/2 For those parking their cars in the streets that surround

Kandos Public School, please be aware that the

mowing of footpaths will take place tomorrow, 7th

February, between 7.30am and 3.30pm.

2019 VOLUNTARY SCHOOL

CONTRIBUTIONS

The School Contributions for 2019 are:

$35 single child

$50 per family.

Payments can be made at the office or via POP

payments. Payments made by the end of Term 1 will

go into the draw for a $50 IGA voucher.

EXPLAINING ABSENCES Absences are recorded by the classroom teacher and

monitored by the school and the Home School Liaison

Officer (HSLO) in Mudgee.

When writing a note after your child has been absent or

when signing the LATE BOOK, it is important to explain

the reason for the absence.

Reasons that sick leave will be granted include:

Illness - such as having a tummy bug, the flu,

temperatures etc

Injury - such as breaking a limb, spraining an

ankle or a broken tooth

Medical appointments - such as a Paediatrician,

Speech Therapist or Hearing appointments

In accordance with the Department of Education,

reasons that you CANNOT receive leave for and that

will be recorded as an UNEXPLAINED ABSENCE

include:

Slept in

Helping with housework

Mental health day

Relatives visiting / family business

Haircuts / shopping

Birthdays

Term 1 Events Our annual school photo day, the Swimming Carnival, our

‘Meet the Teachers’ Barbecue and Information night,

Harmony Day, the End of Term 1 Assembly and the SRC

Easter Hat Parade are just a few of the highlights of events

that will take place during Term 1.

Got-It Program The Getting On Track (Got It!) Program is soon to

commence for students in Years K-2. Permission notes

were sent home to parents earlier this week. A brief parent

information session outlining the program will be held in

the library on Thursday, 14th February (next week) at

9.00am. Please come along and get a better

understanding on what this program offers.

Swimming Carnival - 15/2 The first event of the year to be held will be our annual

Primary Swimming Carnival (for ALL students from Years 2

to 6), which will take place at the Kandos Pool on Friday,

15th February. Swimming permission notes were sent

home with students at the beginning of this week.

Successful Weekend The annual Rylstone / Kandos Street Machine event took

place over the Australia Day weekend and our P&C, along

with Kandos Public School staff and students, were there

cooking and serving food to the hordes of visitors to this

event.

The weekend was very successful, absolutely amazing

and so extremely HOT!

My thanks goes to all of our helpers at our stall. You put in

an amazing effort. A list of helpers has been provided with

the P&C report.

Playground Improvements This week, new softfall will be installed under the

playground equipment near the Infants and library

buildings.

2019 Permission This year, Media permission, General Walking Permission

and permission for movie viewing for students will remain

as stated and granted by parents / caregivers from the

previous year. Parents and care givers can visit or contact

the office if they wish to make changes.

RYLSTONE / KANDOS SHOW The Rylstone / Kandos show will take place at the

Rylstone showground on Saturday, 23rd February.

Students will be working on producing art work in class

over the next few weeks for display at the show.

SPORT Sport is held each Friday for both Infants and Primary

students. Sport uniform is to be worn on this day.

PARENT ONLINE PAYMENTS with credit /

debit card - POP

Items that can be paid for using the Parent Online Payments (POP) via Kandos Public School’s website -

kandos-p.schools.nsw.gov.au

Payments include voluntary school contributions, subject contributions, excursions, sales to students and creative and practical arts activities (these include band, drama and dance). There is also a category called ‘Other’ and this is to cover items not covered in the previous headings. ‘Other’ can be used to make a complete payment of a school invoice.

When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter:

the student’s name, and

class and reference number OR

the student’s name, and

date of birth.

These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held within the payment system.

There is also the option to enter the Student Registration Number and Invoice number if you are aware of them, these are optional fields OR there is also the option to enter the Student Registration Number and Invoice number these are not used at our school this year, please leave blank. Parents will be advised in the new year when changes come into effect.

This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a secure manner, these details are not passed back to the school.

You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is processed. Receipts can be emailed and/or printed.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL - 15/2 The annual Primary Swimming Carnival will be held on

Friday, 15th February (next week) for ALL students in

Years 2 - 6.

Permission notes were sent home earlier this week.

Parents / carers are asked to discuss with their child the

events they would feel confident and competent competing

in. Students are asked to return their completed event slips

to their class teacher as soon as possible.

Parent helpers are needed to assist staff at the carnival.

BOOK CLUB Issue 1 Book Club brochures went home with newsletter

children today. Orders (and money) are due back at school

by Wednesday, 13th February.

SCHOOL HATS All children are required to wear a school hat at

school. If children are not wearing a hat in the

playground they will be directed to play under the

shaded areas.

Schools hats are $10.00 each and are available for

purchase from the school office.

CRUNCH & SIP Students are encouraged to participate in Crunch and

Sip sessions in class and are asked to supply a piece

of fruit or vegetable (and a bottle of water) each day.

Please supply fruit and vegetables already cut up.
