THE PERFECTWEEK

Page 2: What to do in Menorca

In order to provide you with a general overview of what we can do in Menorca and how your holidays can look like in this marvelous island, we have created this small visual guide. We hope it will give you an idea of what activities you can do and what kind of landscapes and villages you can see. To do so, we will show you 3 things to do per day: morning, afternoon and evening. Please note that this guide is not exhaustive. It is only a small example of what you can do in Menorca. For that reason, there are many other activi-ties and places that will not be shown due to lack of space.

Menorca is a natural treasure located right in the center of the western Mediterranean: 125 miles away from Barcelona, 200 miles away from France and Sardinia and 188 miles away from Algeria. Fortunately, the island hasn’t been damaged by mass tourism and it still conserves its natu-ral beauty, its calmness and its authenticity. Moreover, its warm climate during most part of the year makes it an ideal destination for those who love nature and outdoor activities.

Page 5: What to do in Menorca

As a windsurfing and sailing school, we couldn’t avoid recommending one of our favorite sports: dinghy sailing. Sliding through the water surface with the help of the wind is, in eect, a delight to the senses: the sense of freedom, the noise of the sea and the wind… It is a good sport for everybody regardless of their age: it can be both a relaxing and an exciting sport, depending on the wind conditions and the boat used. Moreover, Fornells’ Bay is an ideal venue to learn and discover the world of sailing because of its winds and its flat sailing area.In WindFornells we have lots of dierent boats to satisfy all kind of needs and styles. The best season to practice this activity is in spring, summer and autumn.

Visiting the so-called “Albufera des Grau” is a must. It is a natural reser-ve with lots of dierent landscapes and a great source of biodiversity. There you can find mars-hes, agricultural fields, forests and an amazing coast with clis, beaches and small islands.There are several itinera-ries that cover dierent areas of the natural reserve, which is also a very good place for those who love birdwatching. You can also take the well-known “Camí de Cavalls” from the beach and walk along the coast-line and visit its virgin beaches.

In the evening, you can’t miss the opportunity to visit Es Grau, a very beautiful fishers’ village. We definitely advise you to have a drink and eat some “tapas” while enjoying the sunset.

Fornells’ Bay also oers perfect wind conditions for windsurfing, our second main sport. Probably more direct than dinghy sailing, windsurfing gives an unbeatable sense of freedom and makes the contact with nature even more obvious. It’s just you, the wind and the sea.In WindFornells we have first-class equipment that makes the learning process much easier. In fact, nowadays learning windsurfing is a challenge within everybody’s reach. The whole year is good to practice this wonderful sport. In autumn, winter and spring the wind is stronger and during the warmest months of the year the wind is lighter and therefore better for beginners.

Another sport that you can practice in WindFor-nells is water skiing and all its modalities: monos-kiing, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, etc. It is an intense activity, but fun and adrenaline are gua-ranteed!The best season to practi-ce waterskiing is in summer, when the Fornells’ Bay oers very good flat water condi-tions.

The “Cova den Xoroi” is an unbeatable place, both during the day and in the evening. It is a disco-bar located on the steep side of a very beautiful cli on the south coast of Menor-ca. From its terraces and viewpoints you can enjoy the sunrise, the sunset and the moonlight. It is definitely one of the best bars in the world and its visit is a must.

3 Paddle surfing is a young sport that has recently become very popular. In our opinion, it is a perfect sport for Menorca because it is a relatively easy, intuitive and versatile sport. It can be a very good way to discover the coastline and go snorkeling, a perfect introduction to wave surfing and a perfect complementary sport for windsurfing and dinghy sailing.You can practice it in Fornells, but in WindFor-nells we also oer you the opportunity to rent a board and take it away to discover other areas.

The “Camí de Cavalls” is a path that makes the tour of the island. You can travel along it on food, by bicycle and, as its name suggests, on horseback. You can enjoy this last option thanks to Menorca en Cavall, a small com-pany which organizes excursions on horseback along some stretches of the path. It is definitely a wonderful way to disco-ver the coastline of Menorca and its beaches.

Fornells is a small fishing village located on the north of the island. It is well known for its gastro-nomy and its shops. In Fornells you can taste all the specialties of the Menorcan cuisine: lobster “caldereta”, seafood paella, fresh fish, rice, etc.We strongly recommend having a walk in Fornells and have a very tasty meal in one of its restaurants.

4* KAYAKING *

Page 17: What to do in Menorca

Kayaking, similarly to Paddle Surfing, is a great way to travel along the coast, since you can discover beautiful spots otherwise inaccessible. You will find hiring centers and excursions in several points around the island, such as Es Grau, Fornells, Santo Tomás, Son Bou, Son Xoriguer, etc.

* HIKING ON THE NORTH COAST *

Page 19: What to do in Menorca

As we have already mentioned, the well-known “Camí de Cavalls”, GR-223, is a path that makes the whole tour of Menorca and you can travel along it on food, by bicycle and on horseback. We advise you to walk along some of its stret-ches in order to discover the dierent landscapes that you will find on the coast. On the north coast, the landscapes are wilder, rugged and reddish. On the south, you will find white sand beaches, turquoise waters, pine forests and white sedi-mentary rocks.

Binibeca is another fishing village that is worth visiting. It has a small harbor and a beach, but what is most noticea-ble is its architectonical style. It is a good synthe-sis of the Mediterranean style: white walls and roofs, wooden joists, narrow and paved streets, etc.

Page 21: What to do in Menorca

We have already men-tioned the “Camí de Cavalls” and the dierent landscapes that you will find on the north and the south coast of Menorca. Here you have a small sample of the landscapes and the colors that you can find on the south coast. We are sure you have seen them on post-cards before!

* NORTH COAST BEACH *

Page 23: What to do in Menorca

Menorca is well-known for its virgin beaches. Even if it is a small island, you will find great variety of beaches. On the north, they are reddish and wilder.

Ciutadella is a medieval village comparable to those of the Italian Tuscany and the best of the Mediterranean. Having a walk around its historical centre and along its streets allows us to move backwards in time and enjoy its noble palaces, churches, street markets and other elements of its unique architecture. We would also like to mention its beautiful natural harbor, where you can have a good dinner, a drink or some “tapas”. For those who love sunsets, we recommend going to Sa Farola or Punta Nati. From there, apart from a marvelous sunset, you will also be able to see Mallor-ca on the horizon.

* PARAGLIDING *

Page 25: What to do in Menorca

Paragliding is an explo-sion of sensations. Before taking o, you are usually scared of the unknown and of the fact that you will be flying with the only help of a fabric wing and its suspending lines. Nevertheless, once you are in the air, fear disappears and it trans-forms into a feeling of relief. Then, you start enjoying the weight-lessness of the flight. You relax and you experience new emotions. And when you finish, you feel satis-fied and you need to repeat the experience.

Page 26: What to do in Menorca

* SOUTH COAST BEACH *

Page 27: What to do in Menorca

While we previously said that the north bea-ches were wild and reddish, the south ones are calm, white-sanded and with turquoise water. You fill find them on most postcards: clean blue water and white sand. A picture is worth a thousand words.

We couldn’t finish this guide without mentioning the wonderful sunsets that you can see in Menorca. Don’t miss the opportunity to see a sunset from one of beau-tiful viewpoints of the island, such as Cavalleria’s lighthouse, Sa Farola in Ciutadella or the Cova den Xoroi.
