WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE MY MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?

Discussing what Distributing company would be best to market my film

LIONSGATE

Lions Gate are one of the most successful independent distributing companies in the world,

The fact that they're independent means they can distribute a lot of different types of films with different production companies and target audiences. This means they could be an ideal distributor for our Thriller film.

However they have a reputation for distributing quite a few controversial horror films such as 'American Psycho' and 'Saw'.

Furthermore they don't really distribute many British films or low budget niche films.

Our film is a low budget thriller film for a general niche market. Lionsgate films can be considered to be quite niche, but generally have a larger audience than we expect for our film.

Therefore we decided that Lionsgate, being an American distributor for larger scale films than ours, were not the right institution for our media product.

ARTIFICIAL EYE

Artificial Eye are a mainly British based film distributor and only really distribute DVDs and screenings at art-house cinemas.

They have worked on films like 'Fish Tank', 'Melancholia' and 'We need to talk about Kevin'.

The fact that the cinema produces low budget British Films, makes our product suitable.

ARTIFICIAL EYE

However, our film does not suit this distributor entirely... Our film is a Thriller, and Artificial Eye haven’t really distributed many

thrillers, especially towards the action side of the thriller spectrum where our film lies.

Furthermore, they wouldn’t market the film as big as we would like, our film may be for a niche market but we would expect it to played in big cinemas rather than just art-house cinemas, where most Artificial Eye films are generally played.

MOMENTUM PICTURES Momentum Pictures have distributed a lot of very successful British films, like

‘The King’s Speech’. They have also distributed a lot of very good thriller films as well like ‘The Girl

with the Dragon Tattoo’ and ‘Law Abiding Citizen’. Momentum Pictures will be able to successfully distribute a film like ours which

is both British and a Thriller. They’ll be able to market our film to big cinemas and produce a lot of DVD’s

and maybe Blue Rays of our film. Even though our Target audience is quite niche we think Momentum Pictures

would be able to successfully distribute our film so we chose it.
