Landform

Oceans

There are 5 oceans on the earth.

Oceans cover nearly 71 percent of Earth's surface.

~a large body of salt water~

River

Most rivers flow to the ocean.

~fresh water that flows across the surface of the land~

Valley

Valleys are often found between hills, mountains, and plateaus.

Water from higher areas can flow down into valleys, creating rivers and streams.

~a landform that is lower than the surrounding area~

Mountain

A row of connected mountains is called a range.

The longest mountain range is the Andes Mountains of South America, which extends for 4,400 miles and goes through seven countries.

~a landform that rises above the surrounding area, but it has a peak~

Plateau

One of the largest plateaus is the continent of Africa.

~similar to a mountain, but it has a flat surface on top~

Hill

Hills look like bumps in the earth.

~rises above the surrounding area and has a rounded top.~

Canyon

The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long.

~a deep, narrow valley with steep sides~

Volcano

Volcanoes are formed when magma from within the Earth's upper mantle works its way to the surface.
