CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O Lord our God,you call us to proclaim the gospel, but we remain silent in the presence of evil. You call us to be reconciled to you and one another, but we are content to live in separation. You call us to seek the good of all,but we fail to resist the powers of oppression. You call us to fight pretensions and injustice, but we sit idly by,endangering the lives of people far and near.Forgive us, O Lord.Reconcile us to you by the power of your Spirit, and give us the courage and strengthto be reconciled to others;through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Savior. Amen

WORD OF WELCOMECHILDREN ARE ALWAYS WELCOME IN WORSHIP AT WGPC! Worship Activity Bags are located at each entrance to the Sanctuary.

NURSERY CARE While some children prefer to stay with their parents in worship, others enjoy the opportunity to meet new friends, play and learn stories from the Bible. Mrs. Robin is ready to greet your child with a happy smile and a generous spirit. The nursery is open from 8:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. If there are no children in the nursery by 11:00 a.m., the nursery room will remain open for parents and children to enjoy together. There will be no nursery attendants on duty.

LARGE-PRINT BULLETINS AND HYMNALS, hearing devices, and cushions are also available. One of our ushers would be happy to assist you.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN THE FRIENDSHIP PADS located at the end of each pew.

WATER AND LOZENGES Got a tickle in your throat? Relax. Just head to the Narthex (back of the sanctuary) where the ushers have water and lozenges for your comfort.

We Need Your Recommendations

For Church OfficersYou can help the Nominating Committee discern who those individuals are. Prayerfully consider the ministry and mission of WGPC and those gifted for positions of leadership. Please use the form below to recommend someone to serve as Deacon, Elder, or Trustee. (Please note you recommend more than one person and you can recommend yourself.) You may drop this form in the collection plate or take it to the ballot box in the church office. You may also go to our website to make a recommendation (click on the WGPConnect tab).

Qualifications for Roles of OfficersDeacons

The ministry of deacon as described in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for all. Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, sincere compassion, and sound judgment should be chosen for this ministry.

Elders

11

Page 12: wgpc.org€¦  · Web viewElders, in partnership with the ministers of the Word and Sacrament, exercise leadership, government, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life

Elders, in partnership with the ministers of the Word and Sacrament, exercise leadership, government, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of the church, including ecumenical relationships. They strengthen and nurture the faith life of the congregation committed to their charge. They shall serve faithfully as members of the session. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel, both in church and in the world.

Trustees

Trustees should exhibit the same qualities as elders, but with responsibilities more specific to the maintenance and growth of the financial and physical assets of the church. As such, the trustees have particular need for

those with experience in the areas of engineering, accounting, law, interior decorating/design, architecture, maintenance and banking.

I want to recommend_____________________________________________________

To be considered as (circle one)

Deacon Elder Trustee

I believe this person models the Christian faith and exhibits qualities of Christian leadership in the following ways.

WE ARE ON A MISSION…THANK YOU FOR JOINING US! Thank you to all who served Friday and Saturday as we worked on five projects. At the WGPC

Early Childhood Center volunteers helped with the rummage sale and other projects. At Home Sweet Home the teams worked in the warehouse on Friday, and then loaded and delivered furniture to families to help turn their new spaces into comfortable homes. At Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition the group helped sort clothes for their ReFresh resale store to support the Coalition’s programs. Finally, many members gave blood at the Deacon’s Red Cross blood drive.

WGPC Environmental Project – Marking local storm drains with “Drains to Stream” - meet Deb Grossman in the conference room across from the main office at 9:15. This group will work with the Environmental Stewardship team to mark local storm drains with “Drains to Stream” tags. They will also hang information on neighbors’ doors to explain why this is important.

Webster–Rock Hill Ministries - please drive yourself over to the Ministries’ site by 9:30. This is easy to reach by taking Elm north until you come to Waymire, then turn right. The address is 111 East Waymire. This team will be doing a variety of projects primarily outdoors in the gardens and around the grounds.

12

Page 13: wgpc.org€¦  · Web viewElders, in partnership with the ministers of the Word and Sacrament, exercise leadership, government, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life

If you are helping Robin in the ECC this morning please meet her in the nursery across from the main hallway restrooms when the first service ends.

A variety of projects are available in Fellowship Hall. We will be making sandwiches for those who are homeless, dividing detergent for Webster Rock Hill Ministries, and working on advocacy issues between services. Throughout the morning all are welcome to write cards to friends and members (materials and addresses will be provided). Come join us!

If you are visiting a member in their home today you are welcome to visit at whatever time works best for you and those you are visiting.

If you have volunteered to make dessert for tonight’s dinner…thank you! Please deliver your items to the kitchen before noon, or after 4:00 today.

At 10:30 there will be a service in the sanctuary for anyone who is in the building and would like to join in prayers for the people who are serving, and those who we are supporting.

Remember that we hope you will all join us at 5:00 this evening in Fellowship Hall for a chicken dinner

and a celebration of our time serving together.
