ParticipantsinAmeriGEOSSWeek2016,includingAmericasCaucusmembers,CoordinationWorkingGroupmembers,andtrainingparticipants.TheCommitteeonEarthObservationSatellites’(CEOS)WorkingGrouponCapacityBuilding&DataDemocracy(WGCapD)supportedSARtrainingforthedisasterssession.ThetrainingincludedanoverviewofSAR,anintroductiontogeohazardsapplicationsofInSAR,andthespecificapplicationtovolcanicdeformationandtheseismiccycle.WGCapDmemberfromESA(FranciscoSarti)providedsupportforDr.JillPearsefromtheUniversidaddelosAndestoprovideSARtraining.OnbehalfofWGcapD,instructionwasprovidedontheapplicationofSARdatafortwodays.InstructionfortheremainingtwodayswasprovidedbyNASA.Therewere25participantsmainlyfromColombiaaswellasfromotherAmeriGEOSScountries(Argentina,Bahamas,Belize,Brazil,Canada,Chile,Colombia,CostaRica,Ecuador,Honduras,Mexico,Panama,Paraguay,Peru,theUnitedStates,andUruguay).Participantswerefromgovernmentsanduniversities.

OtherCEOSWGCapDmemberscontributedsignificantlytothetraining,althoughthesecontributionswerecoordinatedthroughtheirGEOcontributions.ThesecontributorsincludeNOAA,USGS,andINPE.

StuFrye,instructorindisasterssession.TheagendaforthemeetingisincludedinAppendix1.Onthelastdayoftheworkshop,theparticipantswererequiredtocompleteasurveyofthecourse,withthefollowingresults:• Morethan50%highlyagreedoragreedobjectiveswereclearlydefined.• Lessthan50%thoughtparticipationwaspromoted.• Morethan50%foundthetopicsrelevanttotheirwork• Over50%thoughtthecontentwasorganizedandeasytofollow.• Morethan75%foundthematerialandpresentationshelpful.• Morethan75%acquiredknowledgeusefultotheirwork.LessonslearnedfromtheinstructorswastheimportanceofteachinginSpanishforbetteruptakebytheparticipants.Lessonslearnedbytheorganizersistheimportancetobeclearaboutresponsibilitiesandattributionbetweenthevariouscontributorstothetraining.
