First thing I changed: The fi rst thing I did was open up the storage room by removing a dividing wall and transforming it into my dining room. I added key decor elements such as “Farrow & Ball” wallpaper, a crystal chandelier, and walnut hardwood fl oors. I also incorporated one of my custom made designer gowns, hanging it on the fl oor to ceiling mirror, to refl ect the apartment’s stunning water view.
Features I brag about: My taste in décor refl ects my personal style; I love to mix vin-tage with modern. One day I can be found shopping at Value Village and the next day at Holts. The same theory goes for interior design; I don’t believe it’s necessary to spend a lot of money to achieve a glamor-ous look. Instead make it a collaboration of pieces that have an overall positive effect on your mood. A great way to achieve this is by mixing textures, styles and old pieces around the house that need a little bit of a makeover.
That one conversation piece: A collection of special edition YSL shoes sitting pretty in glass cases in my living room, some people (a.k.a men) don’t understand the concept, but I think it is very fun and unique!
The décor: I have always been inspired by one of my favourite cities, Paris, and I wanted to create a home which makes me feel like I am in Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée, especially during the rainy days. There is a sense of class and romance in this house whenever I walk in that’s created by dimmers on all the light switches, crown
moulding, venetian mirrors, candles in every inch of the property, fresh lily’s and constant Maria Callas or Edith Piaf playing in the background. I also have a lovely col-lection of tea that I have brought back from various parts of the world, which my guests love to indulge in along with cupcakes of course!
Story behind the art: A treasured painting was given to me from my friend and local artist, Athena Bax who does absolutely impeccable work.
Downside: A bit cliché’ but I always appre-ciate more closet space!
Neighborhood haunt(s): My absolute favourite store is Divano Interiors on Granville Street, the owners Hamid and Margo are so kind and helpful. All of my chandeliers and venetian mirrors are from them and a Persian rug to remind me of my roots. The Gastown Antiques is where I bought a vintage fi lm camera, I visit there when I’m in the mood for décor hunting. Of course who can forget The Cross in Yale-town, a fantastic place to buy cute pieces to make you feel like a princess. They have the best book and candle collection in the city. Just ask for Mark and he well help you regardless if your pursuit is for purchase or for advice.
Compared to my last place... My previous place had a great view of the mountains and the city with a short walk to the shop-ping district, but I admire my new loca-tion’s short distance to the seawall, which is great when you need a walk to get some fresh air or inspiration.
Most recent home purchase: Movie watch-ing is one of my favorite things to do, so an Apple TV was one of my best investments. I also recently added a Sony sound system to complete the experience. I love closing the blackout drapes, cranking up the sound and feeling like I am in my own private movie theatre sans noisy popcorn munchers, tex-ters or seat kickers!
Favourite home activity: I love hosting, so for me nothing is better than having friends and family over for tea and dessert, especially in the summer on the Moroccan inspired balcony; complete with rugs, cozy pillows and candles. It is truly the best place to lay back, relax and enjoy a Van-couver sunset.

New round of less formal hearings announced by attorney general

Attorney General Barry Penner has agreed to widen the mandate of B.C.’s Missing Women inquiry.
The probe into how serial killer Robert Pickton was allowed to prey on vulnerable women will still use formal court-style hearings where those testifying face cross-examination.
But the addition of what’s called a study commission will also allow Commissioner Wally Oppal to hear from more witnesses, including First Nations, in a more informal, less-adversarial setting.
That’s expected to mean more people from northern B.C., along the so-called Highway of Tears where many women have vanished over the years, are heard without having lawyers or legal standing at the inquiry.
“The study commission will provide more information for the commission, while ensuring the police investigations regarding Robert Pickton are fully exam-ined to determine if proper procedures were followed,” Penner said.
The inquiry is expected to report back by Dec. 31 on how to improve any future serial killing or missing women investiga-tions.

The study commission is to allow a broader discussion of policy issues, although Oppal has indicated he may not stray as far from the central issue of police investiga-tions as some advocates would like.
Ernie Crey, brother of one of the women whose DNA was found on the Pickton farm, wanted the inquiry to look hard at government policies that concen-trate on vulnerable women in Vancouver’s
Downtown Eastside.“I’m getting very impatient,” said Crey,
who applauded the change but says time is of the essence. “We need to get this roll-ing.”
The inquiry is to focus on what hap-pened in the fi ve years between 1997 — when a woman escaped from the Port Coquitlam farm after nearly dying in a bloody knife fi ght with Pickton — and 2002 when he was ultimately charged with mur-der after several more women were killed.
The earlier investigation of the 1997 assault, the 1998 decision to drop charges in that case and the delay in eventually ar-resting Pickton again are all part of Oppal’s terms of reference.
