b. Implement Description and Information on Use:
The WESTA-rotary snow plow, Type 650 / 4400, is a 2-speed rotary snow plow
and thrower for efficiently moving snow and loading snow onto vehicles as part of
piste snow management.
Snow is lifted by a slowing turning plow cylinder measuring 4400 mm in width,
shredded and fed in metered fashion to 2 fast-rotating ejection wheels.
This configuration achieves a throwing distance of over 40 meters as required in
piste snow manangement. This machine can be use all types of snow.
The WESTA rotary snow plow, Type 650 / 4400 pr, is suitable for shifting new
snow, wet snow, old snow as well as icy snow.

d: Attachment
The rotary plow and thrower is attached to the piste vehicle’s pusher
frame instaed of the front-mounted clearing blade.
All control finctions of the 12-way blade are used for controlling the
hydraulic functions of the rotary snow plow.
Power for rasing / lowering, swiveling, cross-tilting and cutting-angle
adjustment is provided by the pusher-frame cylinders.
The functions for adjusting the side wings on the clearing blade are used for turning
the chute and adjusting the flap on the rotary snow plow. An electrically operated
pushbutton switches over between the chute-turning and flap-adjustment functions.
Drive
The rotary snow plow is driven hydrostatically by means of the vehicle’s
hydralics. The two ejection wheels are each driven by an A2FM 80
hydromatic motor. The plow cylinders are driven by 2 bevel and
reduction gear units powered by the ejection wheels.
Overload Protection:
The automatic overload clutch is a particular feature of W ESTA 650-type
rotary snow plows and throwers.
A cam-actuated clutch is fitted between the ejection wheels and the bevel gear units
for the plow cylinder. This interrupts propulsion if the snow-plow cylinder is
overloaded, e.g. as a result of catching a large foreign object. In this event, the
thrower wheels continue to turn and empty the ejection shaft so as to prevent any
blockages.
To avoid wear, this drive hydraulics should be shut down as quicjklly as
possible. The clutch now reengages automatically. After removing the
foreign object, plowing can continue.
Ejection chute:
Each of the hydraulically operated ejection chtues can be turned through 220 °.
Any throwing direction can be selected in this range.
The hydraulically operated flap on each ejection chute can be used for
infinitely adjusting throwing distance.
The ejection parabola can also be manually adjusted at a setting bar on
the chute.

The leakage oil hose is particularly important. Failure to connect this
properly or at all will result in damage to the drive motors.
Exercise care when moving the vehicle up to the rotary snow plow. No persons must be standing between vehicle and rotary snow plow !!
Before activating the snow-plow drive, the driver must make sure that nopersons are standing in the rotary snow plow’s hazard zone.
e: Operating and Practice
Attaching the Rotary Snow Plow to the Piste Vehicle
� Set the rotary snow plow down on an even surface
� Slowly move the vehicle up to the rotary snow plow’s attachmentframe.
� Align the implement-plate receiver with the vehicle plate and engage.
� Lower rotary snow plow, shut down vehicle engine andprevent from starting.
� Connect all hydraulic couplers and check for firm it.
� Connect cables for the control valves.
� Start vehicle engine, switch on drive for rotary snow plowand check for proper operation

Travel
- Lower rotary snow plow at the site of operation ans adjust toterrain using the cross-tilting facility.
- Set ejection chute to the choosen direction.
Make sure that no persons are standing near the rotary snow plow or in itswider throwing range.
- Set the plow cylinder in motion by switching on the hydraulic pump.
- Speed of forward travel must be matched to the depth of snowbeing plowed
- If throwing distance is drastically reduced when polwing through largequantities of snow, the speed of forward travel must eb reduced orplowing depth reduced by raising the rotary snow plow.
- Adjusting the tilting cylinder in conjunction with the skids allows the rotary snow plow to glide more easily over the snow or dig the plow cylinders in better.
- Even on thin layers of snow, the speed of travel must under no circumstances exceed 5 - 6 km/h (3 - 4 mph) when plowing as encountering obstacles may result in damage to the rotary snow plow or vehicle.

Snow Ejection
Snow ejection can be hydraulically adjusted through 240 ° at theejection chute.
The ejection parabola can be adjusted to suit a wide range of situations.Throwing range can be adjusted at the hydraulic flap on the chute and byaltering the snow plowing speed.Throwing inclination can also be adjusted at the setting bar on the rear ofthe chute.
Seperately controlled, the two chutes are capable of providingpistes with a homogeneous cover of snow.
Before activating the snow-plow drive and before turning the chute, the operator must make sure that no one standing near the rotary snow plowor in wider throwing range.
Please note that stones expelled with snow can
travel much further than the snow is ejected.
Allow a safety distance of 70 meters.

In designing the WESTA rotary snow plow and thrower, type 650-4400 pr, greatimportance was placed on using low-wear components requiring little maintenance.
As rotating snow-clearing implements are exposed to a high level of stress and strain,following maintenance work must be performed at exactly the intervals stated.
Maintenance work to be performed after every 10 - 12 hours of operations
� Items 1-2 Oil the moving parts on the chute� Items 3-4 Grease the slewing ring and retainer for the
turning motor� Item 5 Check hoses and screwed connections for leakage
after approx. 25 hours
� Item 8 Lightly grease the two lateral plow cylinder bearings
� Make sure all screws are tight and check rotary snow plow for wear at the end of each snow-clearing season
� Carry out all maintenance work that is performed after 10 - 25 hours of operation
� Renew gear oil in bevel-gears ( as described below)
� Check rotary snow plow for wear, replacing scuff molding and skids if necessary
After staring up for the first time,check all bolts for tight fit after 2-3 hours
of operation, tightening as necessary.
When shutting down the rotary snow plow for the summer season,open or remove the leakage oil connection coupler and place in a small container.
When exposed to heat, particularly through sunlight, the oil in the motorsand highpressure lines expands, and must be allowed to escape
as the seals on the motor output shafts could otherwisebe damaged.

Position the lubrication points on the chute´s slewing ring in such a way that the lubrication nipples (2 each) are accessible at the cut-away section in the guard cover.
(Using a rod, the turning motor - which is held in place by spring force - can be eased out of the gearing by hand - the chute can then be turned freely).

After each snow-clearing season:
Renew gear oil in the bevel-gear unit..
- Unscrew gear-unit guard (4)- Open filler screw (1)- Drain oil at drain screw (3)- Pour in approx. 3 l of SAE 90 EP gear oil until overflows at screw (2)- Close oil screws and bolt on wedge-shaped guard.
WESTA Rotary Snow Plow and Thrower, Type 550/650Cam-Actuated Clutch
The cam-actuated clutch is an automatic overload protection facility and interrupts the flow of power between thrower wheel and bevel-gear unit on exceeding the selected level of torque. (600 Nm for rotary snow plow type 650, 900 Nm for type 750). Torque automatically builds up again as motor speed falls ( drive shutdown).

Malfunctions:
The cam-actuated clutch deactivates and no longer re-engages automatically.
Cause:
After prolonged periods out of service, corrosion occuring on the cams reduces spring force to such an extent that it is no longer sufficient for returning the cams to the engaged position.

Remedy:
Using a hammer, knock the clutch housing (1) all the way round. If the clutch now fails to re-engage, it must be dismantled.
- Remove plow cylinders and bevel-gear units.- Remove sealing ring (7) and circlip (6).- The inner part of the clutch can now be pulled out towards the front as a unit together with the cams and spring set.- Clean clutch.- Make sure cams can move freely.- Grease parts and re-assemble as shown in the drawing above.- Ensure sloping sides of cams are correctly positioned.- Fill cavities with grease.- Return parts to the clutch housing.- Fit ring (5), circlip (6) and sealing ring (7).- Re-fit gear units and plow cylinders.
Recommended Maintenance:
At the end of the snow-clearing season, remove sealing ring, circlip and ring, and lubricate the inside of the clutch with spray oil.
