RVing Women is a support network organized by and for women who are interested in RVing. We are dedicated to sharing knowledge and building friendships that cross international boundaries and include women with diverse backgrounds and viewpoints. The only requirement for membership is that you are a woman 18 years of age or older who is interested in RVing. Owning an RV is not a prerequisite.

Our members include women who have traveled with their husbands for years, then find themselves alone and still wanting to travel; single women; married women whose husbands have no interest in RVing; and women who travel alone or in the company of other women. Our interests are diverse, but we do share the common cultural experience of being female.

Members of our all-volunteer Board of Directors also serve as liaisons to our chapters and to several national committees. Volunteers support and enhance this member-driven 501(c)(7) nonprofit organization. Our headquarters office is located in Apache Junction, Arizona.

You will have opportunities this week to meet the RVW Board of Directors. Let them know what you can do to help RVW fulfill its mission to provide to all women a supportive network and the opportunity to enjoy the RVing lifestyle in a safe and knowledgeable manner. Also let our Board of Directors know if you are interested in serving on a national committee or the Board of Directors.

Bev Smethurst, PresidentRVW Board of Directors

Welcome to Convention 2018 Welcome to the 2018 RVW Convention in Shawnee,

Oklahoma. On behalf of myself and the Board of Direc-tors, thank you for coming and supporting our organi-zation. This is a great time to meet new friends, enjoy crafts, attend seminars, great tours and most important have FUN!

Special thanks to the Texas Ramblin’ Roses Chapter and the Mid-America Chapter for volunteering to host

the convention. Also, Linda Elliott has been our convention coordinator for a few years and has volunteered for the Tucson 2019 convention as well. Thank you, Linda, for all your efforts and making our conventions successful. The convention also requires several of our members to volun-teer to drive carts, work at our help desk and various other activities. Last year we had over 1,000 volunteer hours logged. I also want to recognize our vendors who attend and provide us with new and updated products. They also provide seminars to enable us to understand and learn about these products. Please show your appreciation for all of these members and vendors who give their time and efforts for this convention and on-going conventions.

Each year, we are fortunate to have a large part of our attendees who are here for the first time. It is the same this year, with more than 50 first timers. These members are wearing a red ribbon on their badge. If you see a first timer, take a minute to say hello and welcome them. They may have some questions regarding the convention or just need some information.

This is YOUR convention. As you go through the week, some seminars will ask you for an evaluation. Please complete it and let us know your opinion of the class or seminar. We want to continue to improve every year and make sure you want to come again next year. You will also receive a survey when you return home. It is very important that we hear from you. We need your input for new ideas and suggestions for future conven-tions. These surveys are reviewed by the board each January as we begin the process of planning the next convention.

Each day, review your program and determine which events you want to attend. We understand that sometimes there are more than one event you may want to attend. However, some events have two sessions. Most importantly, ALWAYS wear your badge as it will be required to access the events.

IF you have questions or concerns, the RVW help desk is in the main building to assist you.

Again, the volunteers have been working on this convention for over a year. Our best repayment for their efforts is to attend and participate in the activities, enjoy the camaraderie, and most importantly, “have fun”!

Sue McDonald, Mid-America Chapter President

Welcome RVing Women to Shawnee, Oklahoma and the 2018 Nation-al Convention. The Mid-America and Texas Ramblin’ Roses chapters are co-hosting this event again, as we did in 2015.

Mid-America loves Oklahoma and all of the exciting things you can do in the Shawnee area. Try to take advantage of some of the trips that are planned or strike out on your own. The conven-tion coordinator and her team have a great schedule with inter-esting sessions and informative vendors. Along with fundraisers, like the silent auction, there will be parties and of course, an ice cream social.

I’m personally looking forward to meeting y’all and getting to know more of the wonderful women that make up RVing Women.

Welcome from the Mid-America Chapter

Howdy Y’all.A great big welcome from the Texas Ramblin’ Roses. We are proud to be your co-hosts for the 22nd RVing Women’s National

Convention here in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The Texas chapter is 160+ wom-en determined to make cer-tain this year’s attendees enjoy themselves.

Enjoy your time here in Okla-homa, but if you find yourself passing through Texas, be sure to look at the RVW events cal-endar and join us for an event. We have multiple rallies as well as lunch gatherings we call Brunches of Roses. Come on by. You’ll be glad you did.

So whether you’re joining us from Cascadia or Florida, the Northeast Network, or any chapter in be-tween, we invite you to have fun, visit with old friends and make new ones.

Welcome from the Texas Ramblin’ Roses

Welcome from the Convention Coordinator

Linda Elliott 2018 RVW Convention Coordinator

Welcome to the 2018 RVW National Convention in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

This year we have a diverse assortment of pre-convention tours, classes and entertainment, a variety of member and vendor seminars, both home-made and professional entertainment, and, of course, fund-raising activities. We hope that you are able to take part in every aspect of the

convention. For nearly half of you, this is your first convention, and we hope you keep coming back for more.

A convention like this needs lots of volunteers to keep things rolling, so if you haven’t already, please visit the Help Desk and sign up to help out with one of the many volunteer opportunities. It’s a great way to get to meet new people. Finally, don’t forget to visit our vendor booths. Our vendors are great supporters of RVW and there are a variety of services and products available to you this week.

Have fun, gather, participate, attend, volunteer, learn, make new friends, and get together with old ones. There’s something for everyone.

Convention Overview

Service Project

Throughout the convention, we will be collecting non-perishable food items to contribute to the local Community Market. The Community Market is a local food pantry that serves the needy in the Shawnee area. Collection containers will be located in the RVW area (Bay A) beginning on Monday, November 5 through Saturday, November 10.

We have some fun activities planned, including 50/50 drawings, silent auction, package draws, bingo and a special RVW horse race. We will also be selling some special RVW items at the fundraising booth and may have some surprise drawings or auctions. Come to the RVW Section (Bay A) and join in the fun fundraising.

Seminar Descriptions (Friday)

There’s an Emergency Alert on My Phone! Now What do I do?

Friday – 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. – Room 5Whether it’s a hurricane, tornado, tropical storm, flood, mudslides,

snowstorm, wildfire, thunderstorm, heatwave, earthquake or haboob, you may have limited time to react. Now what do you do? No matter what you think, the weather will never be the same. Just look at recent years! Let’s share valuable information and stories with each other about what we have done in each of these natural disasters. Women who have experi-enced any of these natural disasters recently, please come and share with us. Linda will be providing handouts that contain valuable information to use – just in case.

Linda Brown has been a member of RVW since 1996. This is her 18th convention. She served on the RVW Board of Directors 2013 to 2017, and currently serves on four national committees. This seminar was created when CAC members requested it in 2017.

Introduction to LetterboxingFriday – 1:45 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Room 7

A how-to for letterboxing. Letterboxing is a worldwide treasure hunt. Participants follow online clues to a hidden rubber stamp, usually hand carved by another letterboxer. Hiding places are only limited by the plant-er’s imagination, can be indoors or out, and are often in incredible loca-tions that you would not have found otherwise. Some require a walk/hike and some are as close as the bumper of your car. The beautiful inked imag-es in your logbook will be a great souvenir that will fit in any size RV. The first hour will be a classroom session on letterboxing. The second hour, weather permitting, will be an outside practice in finding letterboxes.

Donna Carmon is a native Oklahoman, and is a full-time RVer. She has been letterboxing for seven years. In addition to letterboxing, she loves history, scenic drives, national parks, live theater and great food.

Mind, Body, FinancesFriday – 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. – Room 3

Using Google Maps on Smart phones and ComputersFriday – 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Room 6

Learn to use your smart phone, whether it has a SIM card or not, to map your route and give you turn-by-turn instructions without using any data megabytes. Research and save your favorite places to your personal-ized map to guide you on your route. You have free use of Google maps on your smart phone in virtually any country in the world because the GPS feature with off-line maps does not require data usage. Bring your smart phone and/or your computer.

Presented by an experienced RVW Member.

Don’t forget to fill out the evaluation form at each seminar. We use these to plan future conventions.

Have an idea for a seminar at a convention? Put the information on the evaluation form. Maybe you will consider leading a session yourself!

Seminar Descriptions (Saturday)

RVers Making a DifferenceSaturday – 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. – Room 3

What is Recreational Vehicle Disaster Corps? It is a thriving national program with hundreds of members nationwide. Volunteer RV owners over 55 have traveled thousands of miles to serve in the Hurricane Harvey affected regions of South Texas. These efforts are ongoing as the coastal bend will be recovering for many, many months and remain in great need of volunteers.

Jamie Allnutt holds a bachelor of science degree from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. She and her son are residents of West, Texas, site of the deadly fertilizer plant explosion in April 2013. Both are survivors of that disaster. As an active volunteer in West before the ex-plosion through Kiwanis International, Catholic Daughters of America, the Chamber of Commerce, Keep Waco Beautiful, the Arthritis Founda-tion and St. Mary’s Church of the Assumption, she quickly found her-self involved in the community’s recovery efforts. Following that tragic event, Allnutt served her community as a volunteer coordinator with the Corporation for National and Community Service. Through the Senior Corps program, she facilitated the community’s recovery efforts recruit-ing, staffing and managing thousands of volunteers and coordinating the media and logistics for special events, as well as raising awareness and supporting economic recovery. In 2016, Senior Corps launched the RV Disaster Corps program out of lessons learned from the West disaster. Cultivating the RV community as disaster response volunteers through a pilot program in Texas was a natural fit for Allnutt, an avid RVer herself.
