WILL I NOTICE ANY CHANGE?Potential temperature change during cycling events depends on a variety of factors, including the temperature outside and the home’s insulation.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN “EMERGENCY” AND “NON-EMERGENCY” EVENT?Emergency Event: When regional demand for electricity is close to surpassing regional supply, I&M is required to activate a cycling event. Program participants may not opt out of an emergency event.Non-Emergency Event: When local demand for electricity is very high, yet demand may not be close to surpassing regional supply, I&M may activate a cycling event. Program participants may choose to opt out from this type of event up to two times per year.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE THE $40?You will receive an $8.00 monthly bill credit for each central air conditioning unit controlled during the billing months of May through September. If your control switch is installed between May and September, your first year’s bill credit is based on the installation date.

IF MY CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR IS REPLACED, DO I NEED TO NOTIFY I&M?Yes. Please call us at (855) 607-3788 if your air conditioner’s compressor is replaced. We will have an authorized program representative reconnect the Residential Peak Reduction control switch device at no charge.

WHAT IS PEAK DEMAND AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Peak demand refers to periods of exceptionally high demand, usually during the summer when people use more electricity, largely due to air conditioning. Using energy wisely during periods of peak demand reduces stress on the electric grid and makes the electric delivery system more reliable.

WHAT IS THE RESIDENTIAL PEAK REDUCTION LOAD CONTROL SWITCH AND HOW DOES IT WORK? The control switch is a radio-controlled device that a technician has installed near your outside air conditioning unit. During a limited number of peak demand periods, I&M will activate the control switch to adjust your air conditioner’s compressor to run at 50 percent cycling. This is called a “cycling event.” During cycling events, your air conditioning system’s fan will continue to circulate air throughout your home but the unit’s compressor will cycle on and off. After the period of peak demand has passed, the control switch will trigger your system to automatically resume normal operation.

WHEN AND HOW OFTEN DO CYCLING EVENTS OCCUR?Cycling events can occur from May through September, only on non-holiday weekdays, between the hours of noon and 8 p.m. Cycling events will not exceed six hours per day.

WHAT IF I WANT TO OPT OUT OF A CYCLING EVENT?Program participants may opt out of up to two non-emergency events per year; however, emergency events have no opt-out options. You may opt out from a non-emergency cycling event by calling (855) 607-3788. You may discontinue participation in the program after one year.

HOW CAN I TELL IF MY AIR CONDITIONER IS BEING CYCLED?Check the lights on the switch.

A solid green light indicates:• Air conditioner is not being cycled. • Control switch is working correctly.

A slow blinking green light (about 2 seconds on and 2 seconds off) indicates:

• Air conditioner is not currently being cycled but an event was conducted earlier in the day.

• Control switch is working correctly.

A rapid blinking green light (½ second on and ½ second off) indicates:

• Control switch is not working properly.• Air conditioner should not be affected• Call (855) 607-3788 to have the switch

serviced.

A solid green and red light displayed at the same time indicates:

• Cycling event is in progress.• Air conditioner’s compressor is being

cycled.• The red light will normally cycle on and

off every 15 minutes throughout the cycling event.

• Once the cycling event ends, the red light will go off and your air conditioner will return to normal operation.

If the red light is off or blinking rapidly but your air conditioner’s compressor is not operating:

• Turn your thermostat to a cooler temperature.

• Check home’s circuit breaker or fuses to see if these are working correctly.

• Call (855) 607-3788 to have the switch serviced by an authorized program technician.

No lights showing indicates:• No electric power to the control switch.• Check home’s circuit breaker or fuses to

see if these are working correctly.• Call (855) 607-3788 to report condition.
