Greetings!
Last week you read Seth Duprey’s article in the bulletin and this
week it is my turn to let you know what I have been doing since I
started working for St. Anthony, St. Mary and Holy Family parishes
back in August.
Part of my job is about coordinating events, people and things,
hence the name, coordinator of religious education. I started working
on things that would attempt to create unity and growth for our three
parishes. The first of these things was to implement a Holy Hour for
our families during the evening CCD times. Holy Hour is open to all and anyone who wishes to
spend time in front of the Blessed Sacrament. This is what I felt should be at the top of the pro-
graming list because when creating programs for our parishes, what would the programs be if we
had no one to be in them? So, during the Holy Hour at both parishes, I pray for the needs of the
parish and the needs of our families; something we can all do and then, sit back and watch the
Lord do His work!
Here is what I believe to be the fruit of His work: We have great CCD teachers in both of
our programs who are dedicated to teaching, learning and growing in their faith. And as I am
writing this, almost all are coming back for next year! I have been working on creating catechist
in-services that allow for spiritual as well as catechetical knowledge and getting our catechists
Diocesan certification which is continuing education credit.
A snack program was implemented for our St. Anthony’s faith formation classes and the
afternoon students are enjoying this very much. Thank you PCCW and our parents for donating
these goodies! Thank you to Carrie Becker for serving them each week! With nourished minds
comes the ability to think and when classes start, I believe the students are more able to
concentrate.
For our second grade First Holy Communicants, I started a sacramental retreat that was
held at St. Mary’s this year and will rotate to St. Anthony’s next year. With better coordination
between the Catholic schools and CCD programs it will only continue to grow and that is a
win-win for all.
We have had many youth events that were implemented into our religious education
programs, such as our youth rally at Holy Family, our youth rally at Our Lady of Peace in
Marshfield, and a movie night where students can experience fun and fellowship with their peers.
Thank you to all parents who supported our efforts! We have one last movie night on our last
day of CCD (April 27th) where we will have dinner and a movie. We are also currently working
on a summer mission trip for interested students.
Last, but certainly not least, is the Alpha course that was started at St. Mary’s Parish in
Greenwood for its trial run. The Alpha course focuses on bringing Jesus to those fallen away
from their faith or those that want to know, who is Jesus? This would not have been the success
it has been, if it were not for the dedicated, brave souls that supported this endeavor when Alpha
was so new to us. Thank you team! Hey, I can’t forget to thank the folks that made and served
the food… we were a little closer to heaven when we tasted those desserts!
This August, I hope to change our CCD registration to a digital format to offer more
convenience to our busy families. There are many things I will continue to work on, but I am
running out of room to list them all.
Blessings to all,
Margie Ouimette
