FEAST OF ST. JOHN NEUMANN, JANUARY 5TH
FEAST OF ST. JOHN NEUMANN
John Nepomucene Neumann was born on March 28, 1811 in Prachatice, in the Kingdom of Bohemia, which is now in the Czech Republic. By the time he was twenty-four, he had learned six languages. He immigrated to the United States in 1836 and was naturalized as a United States citizen in Baltimore on February 10, 1848. He was or-dained and later became the Fourth Bishop of Philadelphia from 1852-1860. While he was Bishop of Philadelphia, he founded the first Catho-lic Diocesan school system in the United States. He was the first United States Bishop to be canonized. He was canonized by Pope Paul VI on June 19, 1977. His Feast days are January 5th, the date Of his death.
THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
Today the Magi gaze in deep wonder at what they see: heaven on earth, earth in heaven, man in God, God in man, one whom the whole universe cannot contain now en-closed in a tiny body. St. Peter Chrysologus The Epiphany commemorates the visit of the Magi to the Holy Family.
