Dear friends of Jesus and Brendan,
"Who do you say that I am?" "You are the CHRIST, the SON of the living GOD!" The Question that Jesus asked Peter and the apostles so long ago, He asks of each one of us today! Not only who is He? but who is He for us? who is He for me? It is not an academic question or a bible quiz! It is a most personal question... Who is Jesus in my life? Have I been changed by Him? How is my relationship with Him? Am I in love with Him? It is too easy for us to come to church and go home without being involved, without being changed... How sad! What a waste! Jesus wants to have a personal and ever deepening relationship with each one of us! It should be a life changing experience for each one of us!
St. Paul says to the Romans and to us today: "from Him, and through Him, and for Him are all things." Jesus wants to be the Center of our lives! When He is, everything is different... we see each other, treat each other, speak to and about each other differently... He must be the center of life in the parish! We show it in many ways. It is one of the reasons that Eucharistic Adoration is so essential to the spiritual life and growth of the parish. It is for this reason that we would like to expand the hours of Eucharistic Adoration from 9:00a.m. until 4:00p.m. Monday through Saturday and until 7:00p.m. on Fridays. It will become a clear indication that He is the center of who we are and all we do. Beginning next weekend, there will be project boards in the main lobby with sign in sheets to fill the hours with adorers, with YOU! Please choose a time to give to Jesus in Adora-tion each week. We hope to begin the new schedule on Monday, October 2, the Feast of the Guardian Angels!
I would like to express our gratitude to Kistom Diassoa, who has served as our interim organist/singer for the past few weeks. He has certainly brought life, joy and faith to the music each weekend. We wish him well in the future and hope to see him again!
Next weekend we will welcome Luc Dorsinville as our new director of music ministry, He will be a welcome addition to our pastoral staff and family. It is time to re-new and expand the choir and to form a young peoples music ensemble and chorus. He comes to bring new life to our singing and our worship!
Thank you again for your generosity in the summer mission collection and to Rosary for Life!
Buy your tickets for the Dinner Dance soon... We need you to celebrate with us!
This coming Friday Fr. Norbert Atta will return to his home diocese in Nigeria . We thank him for his ministry among us and wish him much joy and fulfillment in his new assignment.
We are happy to welcome Msgr. Alfred Libwa who will assist in the parish during the month of September. Please offer him a warm welcome.
Peace and blessings, Father Peter
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord! Joshua 24.15

A VOCATION PRAYER Gracious and loving God, help the men and women of our parish hear
the call to serve in the Diocese of Brooklyn.
Our needs are great and our people thirst for Your presence.
Open our hearts, raise up faithful servants of the Gospel, dedicated, holy priests,
sisters, brothers and deacons, who will spend themselves for Your people and their needs.
Bless those who are serving now with courage and perseverance.
Grant that many will be inspired by their example and faith.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Make a Holy Hour.
ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
We are always in need of more volunteers to spend time with Jesus during Eucharistic Adoration each week. We invite all adorers to sign the adoration book inside the Chapel entrance. If everyone would come for
even one half hour of adoration each week we would be able to expand the hours of adoration from 9-4 pm Monday to Saturday and until 7 pm on Friday evenings. Jesus is waiting. Miracles happen.
Saint Brendan Vocation Committee! Bishop DiMarzio has proclaimed a special YEAR OF VOCATIONS beginning on August 4th, the Feast of Saint John Vianney.
In preparation for this special year, we need to form a Parish Vocations Committee to pray for, promote, identi-fy, and encourage young people to consider a vocation to the priesthood, diaconate, or consecrated life. We need to form a team willing to encourage daily prayer for vocations, make materials available and encourage our young people to ask themselves if they think God might be calling them to a life of service in the church. God never stops calling, we need to learn to listen…
Throughout the Year of Vocations, our statue of St. John Vianney will be in the chapel as a reminder for all of us to pray for an increase in vocations to the priest-hood, diaconate and the religious life for our diocese and from our parish.
Beginning Sunday, October 1, we will have two icons of St. John Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests at Mass. Each week we will invite someone from the Spanish speaking community and English speaking community to take the icons home and promise to pray for vocations with their family and friends throughout the week. The icons will be returned to the rectory the following Saturday. There will be a sign up sheet in the rectory if you would like to participate in this beautiful prayer for vocations.
Help Support Our AED Project!
AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED) A person who suffers a heart attack and goes into cardiac arrest has only 6 minutes before the brain starts to die. An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) can be a real life saver.
The St. Brendan's Men's Prayer Group is spear-heading a fundraising drive to equip our church with an AED and provide the training to use it. Please help us to make this project possible.
So far the members of the Fundraising Committee have raised $1,668.
You can drop donations in the rectory anytime between 9 am-8 pm, Monday through Friday. Cash or check will do. Please make your checks payable to St. Brendan Church and in the memo area write-in AED Project. If you have any questions, call the rectory at 718-339-2828 and ask to speak to Vincent Mangual.
