A Story of Love “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” (Jn 6, 28)… The work of God welcome the One whom the Father has sent, that is, welcoming Himself, Jesus. It is not adding religious practices or observing special precepts; it is welcoming Jesus, it is welcoming Him into our lives, living a story of love with Jesus. It is He who will purify our faith. We are not able to do this on our own. But the Lord wants a loving relationship with us: before the things we receive and do, there is Him to love.” ---Pope Francis 8/8/2021

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (English) The parish community of St. Hugh of Lincoln invites you to explore with us as a people of faith in the Roman Catholic Tradition. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a ministry to adults who are interested in learning more about the Catholic faith. Many participants decide to receive the sacraments of our faith and live their lives as Catholic Christians. RCIA addresses the conversion needs of • Adults who have never been baptized • Adults who have been baptized in another Christian tradition. • Adults who were baptized Catholic but have no

instruction in the faith and have not received the Sacraments of First Eucharist and/or Confirmation.

We look forward to this exciting time in our parish as we build up the Church and the Parish at St. Hugh of Lincoln. Come and join us! For more information, please contact the rectory at 631-427-0638.

Bishop John Barres visits St Hugh

August 1st, St. Hugh’s parish family was given a delightful surprise. Bishop John Barres visited the parish and offered the 10:30 Mass as well as all the Spanish Masses on that Sunday. As parishioners walked in before Mass, the church was a buzz. Some people saw Bishop Barres walk into the sacristy. “No that is an auxiliary bishop, someone said” (Bishop Henning had offered the 8:30AM on Saturday) But someone replied, “I know Bishop Barres. He must be offering this Mass!” A short time later conjectures were proven. It was Bishop John Barres!!!! Before Mass he mingled with the congregation, greeting many. He sat with Stella and asked to have his picture taken with her. Later he greeted and shook each usher’s hand. During Mass he took care of his miter and crozier himself; his assistant didn’t accompany him. His homily centered on St. Ignatius of Loyola who in his course in life, from being a prominent soldier, became a priest and founded the Jesuit order of which Pope Francis became a member. After Mass, Bishop Barres thanked Deacon Vito for his dedication and greeted people at the main entrance of church. It was truly a memorable day.
