STUDENT PLANNERS

All students are required to carry their planner with them at all times. The first thing students

should do when entering a class is to open their planner and copy down the assignment, which can be found on the Subject Boards in the back of my room.  The planner will become a reflection of all

that we've done throughout the year.  The planner is also an excellent communication tool between home and school.  Notes, questions, and comments can be

recorded in the planner and replied to in kind.  Planners are to be brought to every class, and to be taken home each night.  Parents are encouraged to

review the planner each evening.

This Year Mrs. Prunty and Miss Stalter will have website where you can access your Classes, Homework, Projects, and other Imperative Info with working links. Please visit the website and Bookmark it. The greatest effort to keep the Website Up-To-Date and Current will take place. Student weekly jobs will assist in this adventure.

ACCELERATED 6TH GRADE WEBSITE WWW.MMSACCL6.WEEBLY.COM

Please note – Mrs Prunty and Miss Stalter are very Extrovert and Eccentric People. We do not always have the time to keep the Website 100% Accurate and Current. Miss Stalter is taking the reign on this endeavor so it is likely that her classes will be more frequently updated. You will still be informed in class your assignments and work and will be given hard copies of material, but the Website is a utilization tool. Please bear with us as we learn this year how to best use the website to accommodate our needs

DAILY AGENDA

This will be posted each day for students to see. It will explain what the agenda is, what Learning

Targets will be studied, and what homework applies. Mrs. Prunty and Miss Stalter both have areas in their rooms that are Subject Specific. On these Boards,

you will find information regarding The Current Topic, “I Can Statements”, Key Concepts and Terms

to know, and Upcoming Events for the class. Students will become very familiar with the Daily

Routine and Agenda after a few weeks. This will help to create and retain structure, routine, and

organization – all which provide an atmosphere that promotes quality education.

Page 21: Welcome to marietta middle school!

LABELING PAPERS

Students will be required to label all papers with the following:

Name, Date, and Type of Assignment. All paper work is to be turned into the correct bin for the class. We expect all students

to be able to properly label papers. If the paper is not labeled correctly, we reserve the right to dismiss that

paper.

Page 22: Welcome to marietta middle school!

HOMEWORK

Homework is essential in education because practice and reviewing of learned information results in

understanding and retention of material. In Math and Language Arts, your child can expect homework

generally every night. The majority of Science and Social Studies work will take place in class. Your

child can expect homework in regards to studying for vocabulary and assessments and it might become necessary to bring materials house. Each Friday

students will submit a “Current Events” worksheet. If homework is assigned, we plan to give students

class time to begin homework so that we may assist with questions.

Page 23: Welcome to marietta middle school!

REWARD/TARDY CARD

Your card is like a credit card. You can use it to earn rewards, lose

reward and redeem rewards. You will be given more detailed

information about your Card on the first day of school. Your Card will travel with you everywhere as it will be used in Specials. We are allowing your Card rewards to be redeemed in your class of choice.

Page 24: Welcome to marietta middle school!

EXTRA CREDIT

Extra Credit is EXTRA work a student may complete aside from the other requirements of

the class. Extra Credit can be assigned and provided on the basis of need and desire from

the student. If you’re your student desires extra credit, they must see Us IN PERSON and we can discuss the opportunity. We will NOT

give extra credit if you have any missing assignments. Missing assignments must be

made up before we will allow you to complete Extra Credit Work.

Page 25: Welcome to marietta middle school!

TEXTBOOKS AND MANIPULATIVES

We have textbooks and other tools that accompany the curriculum. We prefer to utilize textbooks as an additional supplement to support learning – not the ONLY supplement. Therefore, students will not be

assigned textbooks and instead will use a book when necessary. This year we have a new Math Curriculum where we will texts that the student directly writes in, but also can do work on the

computer or an iPad! Students may take a textbook home and will sign it out. It is the student’s

responsibility to keep the book in good condition. For various reasons, we will use materials that

belong to the school such as Calculators, Protractors, etc. We expect each student to utilize

these with respect.

Page 26: Welcome to marietta middle school!

CLASS SUPPLIES

While students are required to have supplies with them for class, We will have materials

available for student use. Pencils, pens, coloring materials, etc will be available at

each table. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that students are respectful of Our supplies and

return everything that belongs in the crate at the end of each class session. Pencils and other supplies can be borrowed with the

knowledge that if the supply stock becomes depleted, there will be no extra supplies for

the class and we will not replenish these items.

Page 27: Welcome to marietta middle school!

CLASS SUPPLIES REQUEST

While you are required certain School Supplies, Mrs. Prunty and Miss Stalter have a few additional requests. Most of these are voluntary but greatly appreciated to ease our efforts and allow for supplies to be constantly available. Our reasoning for this request is based on the fact that in our classes students will

work on many projects and will always be given the opportunity to make corrections, re-dos, or re-submittals. We have supplies

for many projects, but often our supply becomes depleted.

We are asking Parents to donate certain supplies at any point during the year for our ‘Projects Supply’. The incentive behind

this request is that for every item a student donates to the class, they will receive 1 reward sticker on their Rewards/Tardy

Card.

We would appreciate donations of items over Monetary Donations. We feel more comfortable from a Business Point of

View if specific items were donated. Items will be accepted throughout the entire School Year.

Page 28: Welcome to marietta middle school!

GRADING

We firmly believe in the Multiple Intelligence Theory (Gardner, 1983) which states that every individual

learns in a different way. Therefore, Our philosophy for grading will incorporate many aspects that allow for

each student to reach their highest marks in Our classes. We are fans of Formative and Summative

Assessments, which is a Philosophy on judging student knowledge gain and making changes and adjustments immediately and address issues instantly. Students

will receive points based on the class and requirements. You will get more detail on how you will be graded in your specific subject-matter class. We are

non-traditional in that we offer multiple assessment opportunities to learn in many ways to ensure we know

our students are learning

Page 29: Welcome to marietta middle school!

USE OF DIGITAL DEVICES

Phones/Electronic Devices with Internet Access – We are lucky to live in a world where we have immediate and quick access to inquiry and discovery. Mrs. Prunty so very graciously shares her Computer cart with Miss Stalter and she gets first dibs. Also, there are many times when are Network is down and the students cannot access the internet. We are proponents for exposing our students to as much information and knowledge as possible. Therefore, there will be times when we may allow students to have their phones in class. We know that kids learn more efficiently when they have to research themselves and get to access the internet. We expect EVERY student to respect this decision to allow them the use of internet accessible devices and use only the apps to research. Failure to use your device properly will result of lost privileges until reinstated by a Teacher.

NEW THIS YEAR! BYOD – Bring Your Own Device. We will have wireless available to

students this year! Your teachers will show you how to set that up on your own devices

once we are given the OK to pass it out!

CONCLUSION

We know this may be a lot of material to digest at once but can promise you though that you are not alone. If anything, please

remember that the most important thing to do is ASK QUESTIONS if you or your student develops ANY concerns. We have very high expectations for ALL Our students and believe EVERY student is capable of achievement. We are committed

and dedicated to Our students’ education and expect our students and their family members to do the same. Our job as

educator is to be a guide for the intellectual development of young individuals both cognitively and mentally. We will follow both Our Policies and the Policies and Rules of Marietta Middle

School strictly, which is essential for a positive classroom environment that allows all students to learn and co-exist in a manner that promotes quality learning and development. It is

important that ALL students participate in the education process with desire and willingness and We further expect

parents to emphasize this as well. We are all a team and need to work together to ensure a successful and fun academic year.
