What will I need for my lessons?

At Immanuel, some of the subjects that you have been learning will become much more specialised. There will be laboratories for science and workshops for design technology. You may need to bring special clothing or equipment for some subjects. What extra equipment do you think you might need to bring for each of these subjects?

How will you remember to bring the right things on the right day? Think of 3 things you could do to make sure you are organised.

There are lots of things you will need when you start at Immanuel College and it’s a good idea to practice packing your bag

before you start. Remember, you MUST have a rucksack for school (not a handbag) and bring the correct equipment every day.

What do I wear at Immanuel?

When you start school it is important to wear the right clothes. We are very proud of our school uniform at Immanuel. Not only does it represent you, but it represents other students, staff and the whole school to the local

community and the rest of Bradford.

Before you start at Immanuel, practise putting on your school uniform so that you don’t need any help looking smart and feeling proud to be a

member of the Immanuel family.

Read the separate information about uniform and equipment care-fully so you have the right things you need.

You will also need special clothes for PE and games lessons. List up to four things that you might need to bring.

Making new friends

‘Be kind and friendly and you will make new friends.’

Be yourself. Never change who you are to try and fit in. If your friends don't accept you for you, they're not

really friends.

Many students worry about making friends. On this page you can find some good advice to help you make the RIGHT impression at Immanuel.

Be inviting. A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the corridors, don't hunch over your books or keep your eyes on the floor. Stick your chin up and make eye contact with other people. If you see someone you know, give a smile or say ‘hi‘ to .

‘School is like a cake, it can be good or bad, give it a try!’

Year 7 say…

Identify 3 things that make a really good friend.

Decide on 3 things you will do in the first week at Immanuel College to meet new students and make friends.

Asking for help

Sometimes things can go wrong at a new school - maybe just a little thing like not finding your way or maybe big things like getting into trou-ble or not doing your homework. There are lots of people you can talk to for help at Immanuel College—some are below but there are lots more.

Friends can help in lots of ways. They can show you the way around and explain about dinners, timetables and other new things you might not be used to.

Teachers can help you with your work if you explain that you don’t understand some-thing. They will also be helpful if you forget something or get lost, but they can only help if you tell them what is wrong. Remember to speak to your form tutor—they are there to listen to any worries/ problems you might be having.

Your family will want to help you and it is important that you tell the grown ups who look after you about any problems that you are having AS SOON AS THEY HAPPEN. Don’t let things get worse before you discuss it with someone.

Sometimes the lessons that you do at school are very differ-ent from the sorts of things that your parents learnt in school when they were children. This sometimes may make it difficult for them to help with homework but you can always get help from your teacher or another adult in school.

At Immanuel we have the fantastic Mentors, Mrs Barraclough and Mr Riley. They are there to talk to if you are worried about something or just need somewhere to go and meet new friends at break time.
