• Please take out a sheet of lined notebook paper and the picture of your short story. Describe what happens in this story from the point of view of another character in the story: The Mother, The Father, or the Little Mother.

September 3, 2009• During Announcements, please take out short

story workbooks, truth/lie sentences and composition notebook.

• On a new page of your composition notebook, write today’s date at the top and cluster the word, “Education.” When you are ready, move from a cluster to a vignette. Write whatever you would like related to Education. And if you get stuck, DOODLE!

• Do I have a volunteer to rewrite sentence #2 from the truth/lie sentence handout?

Persuasive Paragraph• Today you will finish your game paragraph

and then begin to work on a persuasive paragraph related to President Obama’s address to students next week. Obama will talk about the importance of education, but some people are against him giving this speech because they think parents should talk to their children about education, not the president. Write a paragraph agreeing or disagreeing with Obama giving this speech. Explain your position with three reasons.

Happy Labor Day Weekend!• Please take out two typed paragraphs, one

about “Games” and one about Obama’s speech to students.

• Also take out a writing utensil, your truth/lie sentences, Short Story Workbook, and “Born of Man and Woman” short story handout.

• HOMEWORK: Prepare for Homecoming Week and remember to dress up for Tuesday which is Black and White Formal Dress-up Day.

Fixing Sentence #2

• We weren’t just playing with dolls, but taking soft, stuffed animals out of big black garbage bags while talking about how cute they were and making them seem real. Suddenly, my sister ran downstairs and started crying to my parents that I had put the garbage bag over her head and wouldn’t take it off. I was so angry at this little brat I wanted to scream.

cluster, writing the word “Internet” in the middle section of a new sheet of paper in your notebook journal (not your composition book).

• Today: Creating a mind map for “The Lady”– What does the princess value most”– Use short story to identify Five Values and highlight

the quotation that reveals these values.– Open Internet on computer and find a picture of a lady

that reminds you of the princess. Save to User file– Create a new document—I’ll explain further.

few papers turned in yesterday.– Next, let’s examine the Barbaric King’s Values– Now rank the princess’s values. First reread your

ending to the story. Are some values results of others?

insane when he plans to kill Ralph?• 2. Why does Doug only say “Bang” rather than

kill Ralph?• We know “Bleeder” is a poem about a

hemophiliac. We know the other campers hurt each other to keep from hurting the Bleeder. We know he’s send home because he isn’t safe to be around. But what is the theme of this poem or the universal truth the author wants to reveal? Does your word cloud help identify the tone?

lacks essential communication skills.– Together, Doodle and his older brother create a

complete individual.
