Welcome to Curriculum Night!!!

I can't believe this is my eighth year teaching at Shiloh Elementary!  I taught third grade for four years, and this is my fourth year teaching fifth grade.  I absolutely love fifth grade and feel blessed to be part of the Shiloh family! Before becoming a teacher, I spent eight years in the Marine Corps. and did one tour of duty in Iraq. 

I grew up in Gwinnett County and attended Georgia State University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education along with a Math and ESOL endorsement.  I went straight into graduate school and earned my Master’s degree in Reading and Literacy.  In February of 2012, I finished my Specialist degree in Teacher Leadership.  Currently, I am involved in the two year Instructional Conversation Research Project with the University of Georgia.

Organization is the Key to SUCCESS

All work should be in their binder or folders. Agenda books need to be checked and signed every night.

Friday folders will contain important information and the weekly behavior sheets.

Writer’s Workshop class cultivates young writers in many ways: as creative writers, as editors of their own work, and also as active workshop collaborators. Readers' Workshop class focuses on fostering a love for reading within our students, and to differentiate, or personalize instruction in order to accommodate the learning needs of all students.

HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework takes time to complete. Please provide a nice quiet area equipped with the necessary tools for your child to complete his/her homework free of distractions. It is a necessary extension of AKS learned during the school day.

All homework assignments will be recorded in the student agendas daily. Please review and sign your child’s agenda nightly. Make sure your child completes or attempts all assignments. If you have questions about the assignments or your child does not understand please make me aware the following day via agenda, email, or a phone call.

50% Daily work (quizzes, projects, and etc. 45% Test (assessment) 5% Benchmark

Test Retake PolicyTest Retake Policy

Students will have the opportunity to retest if 60% or more of the entire classreceives a failing score or grade on a test or quiz.

The retaking of a test will be available on a case by case basis according to need.

Shiloh Student Management Plan

Shiloh has instituted a 5 step behavior plan. This plan will be used

for major offenses and repeated minor offenses when classroom

consequences have not been effective., If students reach Step 4 on

this plan, they will be assigned detention. The same consequence will be given for steps 5 and 6. Step 7 will result in an Administrative Referral.

DetentionDetention will be each Friday at 7:15 am. Students required to serve detention are expected to arrive on time., If they are late, they will not be counted as serving that detention, and another will be assigned. Students that miss 2 detentions will be assigned Saturday detention. If student do not attend any of these detentions, they will have an office referral and an administrative consequence.
