Dismissal Changes

If your child is changing the way they get home, we need a handwritten note stating this fact.

We are required to send them the way they would normally go home without the handwritten note.

This is crucial for your child’s safety. If it is a last minute change please call the

office. We cannot change through email.

Grading

Standards Based Assessments in 2nd gradeSimilar to 1st grade, instead of letters-numbersFocus: Mastering Essential Skills

1 - The student does not quite understand the material yet 2 - The student is progressing. They understand but cannot

yet explain their thinking.3 - The student has mastered the material and can explain it.

If your child scores a level 1 or 2 they will be given additional instruction/intervention and when they show improvement they will be given 1 more opportunity for reassessment to show a greater level of understanding.

At Home Practice

Reading minutes will be recorded on their weekly reading log. Students will have a goal of how many minutes to read. They will have an entire week to meet that goal. It is their choice of date and duration. They will be given their reading log on Friday and it will be due the following Friday. It is their choice whether they start reading on the weekend or wait until the weekdays.

Guided Reading books will be sent home after parent teacher conferences and will be on an as needed basis.

Practice Addition and Subtraction Facts.MATH-O will be sent home each month starting in

October.
