All programmes are planned with one thing in mind – the enjoyment and safety of the children who join us! These coming holidays will be full of Minions; Where’s Wally?; PJ and Fish and Chips; Fear Factor and Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Overload to name but a few. We also have our very own personal screening of the upcoming movie “Inside Out” at Hoyts Riccarton. Fun for everyone! Further information will be sent to you in due course, but in the meantime you can view our overviews on our website: www.busybumbles.co.nz WELCOME We have had a very busy and exciting term two so far at all of our venues. Staff and children are making the most of sunny days (when we have them) with lots of outside activities before the colder winter weather is upon us! The crafts and games that Supervisors have planned this term are amazing and I’m sure the colder weather and darker evenings won’t put a damper on the fun. We are very pleased to announce that Natasha Sloane was the very first staff member to receive our new Staff Excellence Award. At Busy Bumbles we realise just how fortunate we are to have such capable and caring staff. I know that for all of our staff child care is a passion, which shows in so many ways at all of our venues on a daily basis. Without our wonderful staff Busy Bumbles wouldn’t be the success that it is and it gave me great pleasure to present Natasha with her certificate and gifts. As always should you have any questions or would like to discuss anything, please feel free to call me on our office number. I love hearing from you all and appreciate all of your feedback. I hope you enjoy the rest of term two and we look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming holiday programme. Helen Beddard Oscar Manager Natasha receiving her award

WHATS BEEN HAPPENING After a very busy holiday programme it was good to settle back into our usual routine

We have restructured our afternoons slightly to assist the children who have homework to complete. A large number of children now have their homework set on the internet, hence are not undertaking their homework whilst with us. On talking to a teacher recently, she advised that although the homework is ‘set’ on the internet, the children can still complete the tasks without having to use a computer.

If you still wish your child to do their homework whilst in our care, please ensure that you let myself (Lynette) or Shona know and we will ensure that homework is worked through whilst the children are with us.

For Mothers Day, the children made wonderful cards and chocolate marshmallow treats. although I’m not sure who got to enjoy the treats - the mothers or the child that made them .

Darfield children are loving the large lego bricks that we have with us currently. Below is Jacob McEntee with his creation.

It is the time of year when the hot air balloons are flying around the Darfield area. They don’t normally come this low though! Was an amazing sight for not only the children, but myself

Lego

We were fortunate to have Leeston Venue join us this day and to have a visit from ‘The House of Bricks’. The children were totally involved for the day, meeting the challenges set and showing that we have so many creative children in our midst. The day was topped off with all children creating their very own Lego Friendship Bracelet.

Puppet Mania

This was a day of perseverance and patience and the Darfield children absolutely shone! We started the day showing the children how a ‘marionette puppet’ worked by having ‘Human Marionettes’. This was heaps of fun and the children loved it.

We then went on to create our very own Marionette Puppets before putting on a puppet show that could not be rivalled!

Circus

Wow – there are so many talented children attending Darfield Busy Bumbles. We had lions jumping through hoops, clowns, acrobats, elephant trainers and so many more entertaining acts, all introduced by our very own Ringmaster.

APRIL SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Great fun was had by all who attended the Busy Bumbles April School Holiday Programme – children and staff alike! Days were filled with games, activities and treats planned with all age groups in mind.

Check out some of the fun we had below:

Chickens Revenge

After a busy Easter, the chickens took revenge by making Easter baskets and creating chicken feed to keep even the fussiest child happy

Back to Nature

The children experienced a day heading ‘Back to Nature’ where they created a camp fire and then undertook a number of camping activities and games.

These included a scavenger hunt, creating a foil river and engaging in the yummy treat of ‘smores’.

Magic Mania

The children created their very own Harry Potter Wands before baffling staff members as to how on earth the children could guess their personal number, how the rope got a knot in it, and where the coin went!! to name but a few

Going, Going, Gone

This was a day that every child went all out for . The object of the day was to earn Busy Bumbles Dollars by taking part in a large number of challenges. All children earned $’s which at the end of the day they could use to bid on items in the auction. This was so much fun and no one went away empty handed!

And the next Holiday Programme will be here before we know it! Stay tuned for another Programme full of fun, games, treats and excitement to keep each and every child entertained and occupied and happy

VENUE NEWS

Hi, I’m Shona

I have been at Busy Bumbles about ten months now after moving to the district from Gore a year ago. I have three grown children so love working with children again.

Hi, I’m Tayla

I have been working out in Darfield since November and am really enjoying it. I am currently still attending school at Darfield and am hoping to further my education at Canterbury University. I am originally from Oamaru but moved here almost 12 years ago.

Hello

My name is Lynette and I have been the Supervisor at Darfield Busy Bumbles since the venue opened two years ago. Being before and after school care I was able to continue in my work as a Teacher Aid until 6 months ago when I was offered the position of Personnel Manager and Holiday Program Coordinator in the Busy Bumbles office. I am really fortunate to work for a business I hugely respect, and still continue working with children which is my passion.

My husband and I moved to Kirwee three years ago now and love living in the smaller community. I have three grown children (who are all now independent) and a number of pets that I enjoy taking care of . These include two cats, three dogs, three alpacas, 8 ewes and my daughters 2 guinea pigs !
