Stem Cell Therapy Locations Welcome Our goal at Florida Orthopaedic Institute is to keep you active. We do this by providing our patients with the best orthopedic solutions for virtually every bone, joint and muscle in the body. Our team of 37 highly skilled, board-certied physi- cians and surgeons has advanced training in their respective elds, and they work closely with one another to ensure the highest standard of care. Surgeons are also fellowship trained, which requires an additional year of study in the orthopedic subspecialties of hand, spine, joint replacement, shoulder and elbow, sports medicine, foot and ankle, and trauma. This expertise is invaluable for proper diagnosis and treatment methods. Improving a patient’s function and mobility is our highest priority, and we do that by trying all appro- priate non-surgical methods rst, which may include medication, bracing, injections, physical and/or occupational therapy, or chiropractic services, all of which Florida Orthopaedic Institute provides. Headquartered in North Tampa, Florida Orthopaedic Institute has nine locations throughout the Tampa Bay area. Additionally, we are aliated with the following hospitals: Tampa General Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Florida Hospital – Tampa, Florida Hospital - Carrollwood, Brandon Regional Hospital, South Bay Hospital and Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Stem Cell Therapy for Degenerative Disc Disease

Degenerative disk disease is caused by worn out, damaged discs that may be a source of severe lower back pain, su$ering and disability. Treatments were limited to physical therapy, pain medicine, steroid injections and spinal fusion surgery, however today concentrated bone marrow aspirate is being used as an adult stem cell preparation to promote regeneration of the spinal discs. FAQ

Where do adult regenerative cells come from?

Regenerative cells are present within various tissues and organs (from bone marrow and adipose or fat tissue).

How are regenerative cells obtained and prepared?

One of the richest sources of regenerative cells is bone marrow, and the hip (pelvis) is one of the best and easiest locations for obtaining bone marrow. In the harvesting procedure, the doctor typically removes (aspirates) cells from the patient’s pelvis. A trained nurse or technician then uses specially designed equipment to concentrate the regenerative cells in the bone marrow and provides the cells back to the surgeon for implantation at the site of injury.

Scientists and doctors have made tremendous advances to make tissue regeneration a reality in treating many diseases. Through stem cell therapy, a patient can take advantage of the body’s ability to heal itself by using the healthy regenerative cells that can be found throughout the body. Laboratory and clinical research have shown that it is possible to use regenerative cells to restore and repair damaged or aging cells and e$ectively regenerate tissue in the body. Stem cell therapy is showing promise in orthopedic medicine, burn treatment, nerve restoration and treatment of heart conditions, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and other diseases.

Regenerative Cells

Regenerative cells were discovered more than 40 years ago when researchers found that cells derived from bone marrow had the ability to form various adult tissues. Regenerative cells are early stage cells. Under the right conditions they are capable of developing into other cell types, with the potential to regenerate damaged tissue.

Autologous regenerative stem cells are being used to treat many types of chronic pain and degeneration. Currently, doctors are treating shoulder, knee, hip and spine degeneration, in addition to soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament) and other bone related injuries.

Will my body reject the regenerative cells?

Since they are collected from your own tissue, they do not represent an immunogenic threat. In addition, the possibility of disease transmission from the use of donor material is avoided. Reimbursement & Insurance Information

Will my insurance cover this procedure?

While stem cell therapy has been used for decades to treat a variety of diseases, their application in orthopedic and sports-related procedures is relatively new in the United States. As a result, many insurance companies do not currently cover these procedures, and payment is due in full advance by the patient.
