Liberal Studies MajorCurrent LBST program
Elementary Subject Matter
Traditional Path: finish BA then enter the Credential Program
Integrated Credential Program: obtain BA and Credential at the same time.
Integrated Credential Program(ICP) Provides:
• A Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies
concurrently with • A Multiple Subject Credential over
the course of the program.
• Authorization to Teach English Learners
• Bilingual Emphasis Option: Spanish Certificate
ICP - Option
• Joint program through the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education
• Cohort model • Core Courses and Non-Core Courses• Full Time (15-16 units per semester) • Must be able to take classes during
the day
The Integrated Program Consists of:Pre-requisite Semester and 5 Themed Semesters
Prerequisite Semester:• EDUC 350• EDUC 364• COE Application Packet• Take the Basic Skills Examination• Other non-core LBST course
requirements• Prepare & Take CSET examination
during ICP program
• 2.67 GPA
Technology Requirement
• Computer Competency Requirement (CCR)– Can take at the community college before
matriculation to CSUSM http://www.csusm.edu/admissions.htm
– CS 100 and/ or Pass by Exam at CSUSM– Computer Competency is pre-requisite
• EDUC 422 Technology Tools for Teaching and Learning– Technology-rich lessons that focus on
student learning based on utilizing those identified skills
– Pre-requisite for College of Education

Practice
• Core Courses: Students take a content course that is paired with the appropriate teaching methods class.
• Non-Core Courses: Students also enroll in selected courses required for the Liberal Studies Major.

• Overall 3.0 GPA in EDUC courses for Credential
• CR/NC not acceptable for major requirements• Can repeat course if you don’t meet grade
requirement
Classroom Involvement
• Total of 4 Field Experiences
• Field practicum I & II– 2 half days in assigned elementary classroom– Group work, one on one work, 3 lesson plans
• Full time Clinical Practice– Clinical Practice I - 8 weeks– Clinical Practice II - 8 weeks
