    What's Been Happening

    The Great Southern Marmite Drive

This afternoon we were proud to formally donate the Dunedin proceeds

from The Great Southern Marmite Drive to the Dunedin Combined

Foodbanks c/o Presbyterian Support Otago. The team at PS Otago took

us through the foodbank where the cupboard was shockingly bare. It

isn't until you see it with your own eyes that you fully understand the

very real need for private charity and community support.

Our thanks goes out to the team at PS Otago for what they do for the

community, and we look forward to working with them again this year.

If you'd like to find out more, head over to the PS Otago Facebook

Page, or follow them on Twitter. We'd encourage everybody to

consider grabbing an extra can of something the next time you're at the

supermarket, and dropping it into the nearest available foodbank bin.

    Brighter Voices: Policy Forum

We recently held our first of

    two Policy Forums where

    Members were invited to come

    along and discuss the

    potential policies that the

YNSR would put forward tothe New Zealand Young

    Nationals Conference. After

    good discussion amongst

those present, the following five policy priorities were chosen by

Members: (1) equal rights under the law for same sex couples; (2) drug

law reform; (3) introducing civics education into the secondary school

curriculum; (4) re-prioritising support for mental health care; and (5)

    death with dignity (euthanasia) reform.

Now we move onto developing these policies further and then

presenting them to the NZYN Conference for adoption. If you'd like

more information please get in touch with John.

In the Super Rugby, we're storming up the leaderboard, and now only

3 points separates us and current leader John Brinsley-Pirie. We

managed the top score this week, along with Scott Miller and Tim

Shiels. A few zeroes this round, so don't forget to get your tips in on

    time!

    Membership

As always, I encourage anybody who

hasn't already done so, to sign up

    with the Party

    atyoungnats.org.nz/join/ as

either a Member or a Supporter so

that we can ensure you're entered into

our system. As we move towards the

real decision making forums in the

year, it's a good opportunity to have

serious input into the workings of

    government. Check out

our Facebook Page for more regular discussions, and add me on

Facebookif you'd like access to our Members & Supporters only group

on Facebook where we discuss further internal Party matters.

On a personal note this week, I start my new full-time job at the

University of Otago on April 23, so we're going to do a bit of

rebalancing with the external communications from YNSR, but my

hopes are that I can still maintain the weekly newsletter for you all.

For those students on holiday next week, do enjoy yourself, and come

back refreshed and ready for the Mainland Conference. For everybody

else, have a great week at work!

    Cheers,

    James Rawiri Meager

    Chair
