We had a great race at Ft. Yargo last

weekend. Finished 8th Place in my sec-

ond XTERRA Off-Road Triathlon of the

year with a time of 2:08. The race

course was very fast. We camped at Ft.

Yargo all weekend and had an absolute

blast.

Only 11 more days before we head up to

Birmingham, Alabama for the ITU Cross

World Championship. Ex-

terra combined their regional

championship with the ITU

for a show down at Oak

Mountain State Park. Its one

of the gnarliest mountain

bike courses in the US. The

21 mile bike course includes

the infamous "Blood Rock"

section. There's usually

about a hundred blood thirsty

spectators hanging around at

blood rock, a two mile tech-

nical rock-garden. They'll be

outfitted with cow bells, and

plenty of beer, to cheer on

the riders as we come

through, so they can witness

the carnage. My TEAM

USA Race Kit will be in this

week. I must say its hard to

contain my excitement about

racing in the good ole' red,

white, and blue while listening

to chants of "U-S-A, U-S-A!!"

Racing like a pirate in the

woods!

BOOTY HOP UPDATES

Week of April 30

Booty Hop Updates:

There have been several questions about the Booty Hop that I thought I may share with all

of you.

Tom, Nicole and I have tickets for sale. Tickets are then redeemed at Hop nite for packet

pickup. Just like a race event tickets go up two weeks before the event and day of

event. Just like school chocolate bars you may volunteer to help ticket sales by being al-

lotted a group of tickets that you would sell to friends. - return the funds and possible un-

sold tickets to myself, Nicole or Tom.

At packet pickup each person turns in a ticket and gets a Hop Lanyard, a score card, (to

write down the cumulative time to complete each Minute to Win It event. Potential Min-

ute challenges are FLIP CORK, TOSS THE TOASTED PHEASANT, WALK A PLANK. -

ETC. You are not timed while walking, drinking or eating at each Hop Stop. ) and

five Hop Stop specific drink tickets at Grillsmith, KOBE, Toasted Pheasant, Red Ele-

phant, and Tilted Kilt. Pre event appetizers at the pickup site - exact restaurant to be de-

termined.

Judges, if you may call it that are needed at each Minute Challenge to monitor execution

of the task. This is self timed - be honest.

I am an experienced, professional bar hopper, skills honed with the Street Car Hop Com-

mittee of the Rough Riders of Tampa. This exceeds their standards to meet the reputation

Longboat Key Tri ReviewAfter attending

Longboat Key Tri’s maiden voyage a few

years ago, I was VERY excited to return to

the venue for the first sprint race in Long-

boat Key. If you’ve never been to Long-

boat Key, first of all, you’re missing out

on one of Florida’s most BEAUTIFUL

beaches; and secondly, this race is a great

opportunity to see it and enjoy a well-

rounded race! The race was held at the

very posh Longboat Key Club & Resort.

Race day parking wasn’t even 50 yards

from transition area/check in which was a

NICE change not to have to arrive super

early and park far away. Registration was

well organized and transition area was

well lit and, in an interesting turn of

events, bike racking was “open” (you

could rack your bike/set up transition

wherever you wish, no numbered racks or

designated spots!). Before the race, there

was a very nice event tent where mellow

music gave off a calm “lounge” feel,

which I enjoyed very much and found

very relaxing. To top it off, there was a

wonderful breakfast spread of bottled wa-

ter (on ice), variations of Gatorade, fruits,

yogurt, Gatorade bars, breakfast breads &

pastries and coffee! The swim was held in

an intercostal channel, which was still

very clear and calm. The bike was a sim-

ple, flat, out and back with mini-

mal wind on the main road out-

side of the resort. The run was

very scenic, along the golf

course with lots of extraordinary

real estate to distract you while

you run. Post-race party was

great with the same spread as

pre-race and lots of music! This

was a great race and can easily

be made into a small weekend

getaway! I am looking forward

to returning to the next Long-

boat Key race on October 28th

and you can register too at

www.imathlete.com!
