Why Wear a Safety Pin?

It is subtle way people are making a state-ment against sexism, racism, and xeno-phobia in a show of solidarity. It is a sign that you are a safe person. A person peo-ple in need can turn to. A marginalized person who is being harassed will look to you to help keep them safe. By wearing the safety pin you make a public pledge to be a walking, talking safe space for the marginalized.

AMIGOS 2017 AMIGOS was started in 2004 by the York Association following a mission trip

to Honduras. The travelers learned that during the summer months, when school

was not ordinarily in session, children in the poorer villages had no food to eat.

Some died of starvation. This seemed like a problem Mainers could tackle.

And with your help, we will continue! AMIGOS has changed over the years,

trying to simplify the program and be the best stewards of our resources. Rather

than sending actual buckets of food, we now collect monetary donations. We

purchase and deliver the food locally in Honduras, providing fresher food, a

boost to the local economy, and the ability to stretch your donations to feed more

children. Plus, we know every penny we raise helps a child! Many of these chil-

dren have only a small cup of coffee (no milk) and a piece of tortilla for their

meal. Your donations provide fruit, vegetables, and protein delivered through the

school system, in the remote mountain villages.

Please join with other York County Churches and make a HUGE difference

in the life of a child

We would like all donations to be turned in by June 4th, 2017 (but there is al-

ways grace). If you would like to send a donation directly, please make a check

payable to York Association Missions and note “AMIGOS” in the memo line.

Send it to:
