Headmaster Year 12 Final Day We said farewell to our Year 12 students yesterday with a series of House farewells, cuff-link presentations by fathers of Year 12 students who were also Old Boys of the Grammarians Association in the morning, and lunch. The day finished with a Leavers’ Service at St Mark’s Church and a Valedictory Dinner in the evening at the Melbourne Cricket Ground with parents and staff. The day was filled with a mix of emotions, excitement and memories and it was wonderful to celebrate the conclusion of their formal schooling at CGS with them. I am sure that the whole school community will join with me to thank them for their contributions to CGS and to wish them well in their final examinations. Prize Giving Assembly Prizes for outstanding achievement were presented at our annual Prize Giving Assembly on Tuesday 18 October in the Performing Arts Centre. Our special guest speaker was Dr Rebecca Chan, an internationally acclaimed musician. We also welcomed the parents and families of our prize winners in order to share in our congratulations and recognition. The Duces of 2015, Justin Tu and Garry Zhu, and the Proxime Accessit to the Duces, Erwin Vii, were also invited back to receive their prize. Twilight Concerto ConcertOur annual Twilight Concerto Concert will take place in The Henley Rehearsal Room, Mallinson Music School at 7.00pm on Wednesday 26 October. The evening is a wonderful concert featuring a number of our senior musicians performing solo work accompanied by a chamber orchestra of staff and students. Admission is free and promises to be a delightful evening’s entertainment.

Paul Hicks, Headmaster

Middle SchoolYear 8 SocialIt has been a big week for our Year 8 boys as they prepare for tonight’s Social. Ticket sales have been very strong at Camberwell Girls’ Grammar, Fintona and PLC, so it promises to be a great night. Mr Brian Nguyen’s lunchtime dance lessons have certainly been a highlight this week, with ‘The Nutbush’, ‘Time Warp’ and the ‘Macarena’ proving popular. The social starts at 7.30pm and the boys can be picked up at 10.30pm. Please remember that we want all boys to be picked up by an adult at the conclusion of the night. My thanks to Mr Joe Tierney, Ms Katrina Massey and Ms Victoria Papaioannou for all the great work that they have put into making this event a major success again this year.

Run/Walk for Koala KidsThe Run/Walk for Koala Kids takes place next Wednesday, between 11.30am and 12.30pm. The boys are encouraged to gather as many sponsors as possible for the event. A sausage sizzle under the Atrium will conclude what should be a great occasion. The boys are permitted to wear their sports uniform to and from school next Wednesday. A reminder that we would love to hear from any parents who can help us to cook sausages from 11.00am next Wednesday.

da Vinci DecathlonOur da Vinci Decathlon team that got through to the National Championships last year was re-united for a Year 8 competition at MLC on Thursday. The team finished fourth overall, including a second place for Engineering and third in both Code Breaking and Logic. Well done to Kevin Yang, Sonny Wang, Philip Wang, Kaelan Fraser, Matthew Chan, Emmanuel Marcus and Jamie Garnham. My thanks to Ms Carmen Morgan, who coordinated the team for this event and Ms Jenny Turnnidge, who assisted on the day.

Rob French, Head of Middle School

Junior School Southern Metro Regional AthleticsOn Thursday 13 October, two Junior School boys and one Middle School boy competed in the Southern Metro Regional Athletics Championships held at Casey Fields Regional Athletics Centre, Cranbourne. Congratulations go to Sebastian Beck (Year 5A) who came sixth out of a field of 15 with a time of 29.76sec. Jake Ford (Year 6M) finished an impressive fourth overall out of a field of 16 with a time of 27.55sec. Special congratulations go to Ben Ford (Year 4A) who participated in the 9/10 Years Shotput and placed third overall with a throw of 8.26m. Great effort to all boys.

New Lunch Order SystemAs of the start of next year all Junior School lunch orders will need to be done online using Flexischools. The new system has many benefits for both home and school. Parents can access the Junior School menu and order for the day or for the week. No longer will there be forgotten paper bags with money left in boys’ bags, incorrect orders or misunderstood handwriting. To help parents prepare for the new system, Junior School will make ordering lunches through Flexischools available from the start of November 2016. Paper bag ordering will still be available during this time, but ends at the conclusion of this year. Parents are encouraged to sign up to Flexischools and test the new service. This will also allow us to rectify any issues that might be experienced.Parents will receive more information next week, and there is a flyer attached to this Bulletin.
