This made SA the largest Lutheran Community per capita in Australia and the iconic wine producing state that we enjoy today. Let us remember interesting timesare not equated to contentment or peace but a time of uncertainty. Christian Education aims to bring students to a point of peace even though the world may be in turmoil around them. This is more than resilience, its antifragility. Resilience aims to weather the storm somehow whereas anti-fragile relates to a position of unbrokenness and strength. We are called to make the most of every day and to exalt one another to achieve great things. As we approach this Christmas season, let us do so remembering that Christ is the real reason for the season and be mindful of His desire for us to be reconciled to Him.

What to Make of Things?

When I was at High School, I worked for an old builder. When we got to a

knotty problem the old fella would think aloud allowing me into the problem

solving process. Whenever we reached a consensus or solution together he

would often say, “There you go, two heads are better than one – even if

they are sheep.” Even to this day I’m not sure of what he was actually

saying.

I remain comforted by what Jesus said, “Again, I tell you truly that if two of

you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you

by My Father in heaven. For where two or three gather together in My

name, there am I with them.” Matt 18: 19-20.

I hope that you have read Mike Potter’s (HOS) pastoral letter regarding our

schools’ approach to the Same Sex Marriage (SSM) vote. If you haven’t

read it may I commend it to you. It is well crafted, sensible and fits into our

culture and ethos without disregarding all people’s integrity.

If ‘interesting times’ means that we consider a whole range of political is-

sues that challenge Judeo Christian values, then we have certainly arrived.

SSM is the tip of the iceberg when we look at the escalation of the

euthanasia debate. There are a whole host of other areas such as freedom

of speech and religious freedom that still and will challenge us in the

Christian school setting.

Had the right to religious freedom had not been enshrined in the SA

Constitution, we would not have known of the massive Prussian

immigration to South Australia. The immigrants of the 1830’s were fleeing

the persecution of Frederick William III who was rounding up pastors and

incarcerating them. This made SA the largest Lutheran Community per

capita in Australia and the iconic wine producing state that we enjoy today.

Let us remember ‘interesting times’ are not equated to contentment or

peace but a time of uncertainty. Christian Education aims to bring students

to a point of peace even though the world may be in turmoil around them.

This is more than resilience, it’s antifragility. Resilience aims to weather the

storm somehow whereas anti-fragile relates to a position of unbrokenness

and strength.

We are called to make the most of every day and

to exalt one another to achieve great things. As

we approach this Christmas season, let us do so

remembering that Christ is the real reason for the

season and be mindful of His desire for us to be

reconciled to Him.

JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS Year 3/4

Researching the history of the Hahndorf Academy (formally a school) and enjoying the arts/crafts display.

Exploring a school classroom from the 1870’s in the German Migration Museum section of the Academy.

The school was in great demand & this resulted in a lack of space. So students

who were boarding had to sleep up in the ceiling. These stairs lead to the first floor &

the ceiling.

Checking out one of the old lift up desk tops with its ink well holes &

resting places for the students’ nibs & pens. We had a fantastic time and learnt a great deal about the early schooling, building styles, farming methods and lifestyles of the first

settlers in the town of Hahndorf and the surrounding Adelaide Hills area.

Discussing the amazing items in the

Museum like this antique baby’s pram & farming tools.

We extend our sincere thanks to Mrs Kluge, Miss Stiller, Mrs Videon & Mrs Spencer (with her Year 3 class from our Tyndale Strath School)

who joined us.

SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Senior Students v Staff Soccer Game On Friday the 10th of November, we had our first Senior Students v Staff soccer game. The game was very competitive and was tied up at half time. Fortunately for the staff, they ran away with the game, 2 - 0. Never the less, every one who participated had a great time. Thanks to Will and Tylah for umpiring, Lachlan for helping, Zachariah for organising the student team and Emy for printing the senior student shirts. A big thankyou for Jack Snell for organising the game, setting up the pitch and for organising the staff team. What great fun for staff, students and spectators.

Year 7 & 8 Monarto Zoo Excursion Last Friday, the Year 7 and 8 students went on an excursion to Monarto Zoo. We started the day with the Ranger Learning experience where we all put on our ranger caps and learnt to be observant of the things that we might find in the wild. This included learning to identify animal prints, scat and the different parts that belonged to specific animals.

We then went on the Safari tour and were blessed with the opportunity to see the animals up close from our bus. These included giraffes, bison's, elands, rhinos as well as a litter of 5 cheetah cubs with their mum! We also had the opportunity to have a little sneak preview into the zoo’s new attraction, the Lions 360 experience.

A big thank you goes to our tour guides for the day, Erin and Richard, who patiently answered all of our questions and gave us a deeper insight into the important part that zoos played in the conservation of threatened and endangered animals. I’d also like to thank Mrs. Cameron and Yune for joining us on the trip and David Barry for driving us to the zoo safely. We had lots of fun and thoroughly enjoyed the experiences. Wei-Lin Wong
