K-12 FAIR HOUSING POSTER CONTESTThe City of Lawrence Human Relations Commission announces its Fair Housing Poster Contest. This year's theme is "Keep the Dream Alive!" K-12 students may enter by April 5. All entries will be displayed in April at the Lawrence Public Library. Winners will be recognized by the Lawrence City Commission on May 1. Students finishing in first, second, and third places will receive gift cards or gift certificates. Lawrence Public Schools partner with the City of Lawrence to present the annual poster contest.

NEW Scholarship Opportunity• KACKRAO Scholarship: The Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions

Officers (KACRAO) offers scholarships to reward students who have demonstrated quality leadership during their high school years. There are four $500 awards available each academic year, which may be used at KACRAO member institutions. Thescholarships will be designated as follows, one per school type: four-year public, four-year private, community college, and technical college. NEW Scholarship Opportunities• The family of Fletcher Scott, a graduate of 2017, has donated $1000 to be awarded as scholarship money to an

outstanding LVS senior student who plans to pursue a post-secondary education through a 4-year or community college, or training through a technical or trade school.

• Prior to disbursement, the recipient must be accepted into the school of choice, and monies will be paid to the institution in two equal distributions, once for the fall semester and once for the spring semester.

• Preference will go to a student who can demonstrate financial need and who can articulate how he/she/they have overcome personal obstacles in life. ALL documents must be in by May 1, 2018. FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid• If you are like most Americans, you need help paying for college.

• The FAFSA will determine how much aid (money) you will receive from the government in the way of students loans (you pay back) and grants (FREE $ - you do not pay back).

• Fill out the FAFSA and designate the schools on the application you wish to receive your information.

• You will need the following for yourself and for your parents, assuming you are a dependent:

• Your Social Security Number

• Your Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)

• Your federal income tax returns, W-2s and other records of money earned. (Note – you may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)

• Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)

• Records of untaxed income (if applicable)

• A FAFSA ID to sign electronically

• There is no obligation to accept the student aid, so do NOT ignore this! It could save you hundreds or thousands of dollars.

The LVS Student Council challenges YOU to donate one dollar to provide THREE MEALS for Harvesters - The Community Food Network.

Our goal as a school is to donate 1,540 meals!

Just one dollar from each LVHS student, staff member and administrator can make a difference by purchasing 3 meals. If everyone puts in a little, we can give our Kansas communities a lot. Let’s make our goal again this year!
