Week of January 18, 2016
Dear Ones,
This past week was challenging. We hosted mostof our usual renters, our Buddhist friends, andtwo families that are homeless. I asked you tomake sacrifices of your time, space, and usualcomforts. I did wonder what it was like for youto meet in cramped spaces, have your gatheringsin spaces that are not your usual spots and whatit was like to share resources. I agree that this

January 31 Sunday Service
it was like to share resources. I agree that thispast week wasn't the perfect week for me toagree to host families. A funny thing about thehomeless-they can't plan when they will need us.We were there when they needed us. I wonderedabout other things this week too. What is it liketo be homeless? What is it like not knowingwhere your next meal will come from? What is itlike living in a classroom with a baby and feelinglike you're imposing? What is it like not having aconsistent space where you can gather withothers of your faith? One thing that comforted methis week was knowing we were living ourmission. Although the temporary circumstancesof being overbooked may have made usuncomfortable we did transform lives throughliberal religious community. You see our missionisn't to transform lives through our meetings. When we are challenged by not having our usualcomforts it's a time for us to step back andrealize the truly important work of our belovedcommunity. Would I host families in a week withso many other happenings again? No. But, if theneed presented itself I would respond. Thank youfor your support and patience.
Blessings,
Rev. CJ
