This was in preparation for the swimming carnival

next week. Students divided into their house groups

where they voted in some of their seniors into the role

of House Captain who assume responsibility for

organising, motivating and encouraging their

individual teams to increase participation in our

sporting events. So many of our students show huge

leadership potential, but for this attribute to develop it

needs opportunity, guidance and experience. House

Captains are just one way we nurture this lifelong

skill. Each House group has teachers as House

patrons to support the house leaders in this role.

Team- Kurabi (Yellow)

Team - Bundaluk (Red)

Team - Jirramba (Blue)

Team - Murriong (Green)

Last week each group then learnt a house chant to

create atmosphere and healthy competition between

groups- the loudest and the most enthusiastic team is

the winner.

Murriong practicing their chant

Congratulations to the winner of the House Chant

competition irramba (Blue ).

We look forward to seeing all students attend the

swimming carnival it is considered a normal school

day and the normal attendance rules of the

Department of Education are expected, regardless of

whether the student chooses to enter events or not.

NO teachers will be at the school, so all students

must attend the pool. Students who are absent and

the reason is other than those deemed reasonable

(see article later in this newsletter), they will be

recorded on their school records as an unjustified

absence. A copy of the swimming note is included in

this newsletter if parents/carers need to print off

another copy.

Please contact the school if you receive government

financial support and require access to student

assistance money to pay for this excursion.

During the year will try to share in the weekly

newsletter photos of learning experience straight from

the classroom. Miss Talidu's 7A2 VA have been

practising colour mixing, in an engaging and

interesting manner.

Also, Mrs Tait has been delivering an Introduction to

the Library lesson to Year 7 classes this is the

beautiful 7S learning lots about what the library can

do to help them be successful in high school.

Although Windsor High School is relatively small

compared to some other High Schools we

provide our students a huge breadth of

curriculum. Year 11 Primary Industries are

currently learning all about tractors before they

start driving. This week they had to know the

parts, pre-checks and hand signals.

Year 9 Agriculture elective has planted

chrysanthemums this week which we hope will

be in bloom ready for Mother's Day.

The blind date with a book promotion has been

very effective, encouraging all students to read

more. Research shows this is a highly effective

way to improve literacy outcomes.

Following on with the Valentine’s Day theme,

students were able to buy a rose for friends as a fund

raiser for the SRC. It was lovely to see roses were

being given as a symbol of friendship so many smiles

all round.

At Windsor High we try to provide our students with a

wide range of enrichment activities. Ms Beale took 4

students to participate in the Bangarra Dance at Emu

Plains. There is a video on our Face Book page if

you would like to see the great job they did. Ms Beale

reported "These four have made me so proud of them

and our culture!" We are proud of all of you!

.SRC NEWS

2017 has kicked off to a flying start for the members of the Student Representative Council (SRC). After the recent SRC elections, the newly elected SRC members have participated in a number of new programs and initiatives. These have included the Hawkesbury Leadership Camp Program, and the ever popular, Valentines Day Fundraiser. The SRC recently participated in the Hawkesbury Leadership Camp Program, which was held at Latunda, Yarramundi. This event aimed to promote leadership qualities. This involved the SRC leading activities at the Year 6 camp, with Year 6 students drawing from a number of local primary schools within the Hawkesbury. Students were placed in mixed groups, and under the leadership of various SRC members, participated in team building and leadership activities. They participated in a number of activities including Capture the Flag, Marshmallow Tower and Steal the Egg (blindfolded). These activities enhanced the leadership qualities of Year 6 students, whilst providing an opportunity to meet student leaders from Windsor High School.
