Photography COMPOSITION DO NOT write on these papers. Every person in your group must read these pages. Stay in the location you have been assigned. DO NOT change locations. Do not go outside. NEVER take cameras into bathrooms. If there is a fire drill, go to the nearest exit and check in with a teacher outside. Do not take photos during the fire drill. If there is a lock down drill (such as a tornado drill or intruder drill), quickly go to the nearest classroom and check in with the teacher. Do not take photos during the drill. Return to class at least 5 minutes before the bell for clean up. Vocabulary Composition is how you choose to arrange everything in your photo within the frame of the photo. The frame of the photo is the outside edges of the image (it does not mean to have your photo framed). The subject of the photo is what you are photographing. It could be anything: people, animals, plants, landscapes, even inanimate objects. ***Your Shot List*** Each person in your group must take ALL 10 photos below. Remember: Use your own camera. Never take photos on someone else’s camera. Take photos of 3D things, not flat things. Make your photographs interesting. Take your time to find interesting angles from which to photograph your subject. Any subject can be interesting if you photograph it in an interesting way. Take multiple photos of each subject and each item on the shot list.

VocabularyComposition is how you choose to arrange everything in your photo within the frame of the photo. The frame of the photo is the outside edges of the image (it does not mean to have your photo framed).

The subject of the photo is what you are photographing. It could be anything: people, animals, plants, landscapes, even inanimate objects.

***Your Shot List***Each person in your group must take ALL 10 photos below. Remember:

Use your own camera. Never take photos on someone else’s camera. Take photos of 3D things, not flat things. Make your photographs interesting. Take your time to find interesting angles from

which to photograph your subject. Any subject can be interesting if you photograph it in an interesting way.

Take multiple photos of each subject and each item on the shot list. Pay attention to what is in the background of your photo. Do not take the photo until the

background is exactly what you want it to be. ALL of your photos MUST be in focus (not blurry).

Fill the FrameYour subject fills the frame and not much of the background is visible.

ProximityYour photo shows multiple subjects and those subjects are close together.

Keep it SimpleThe background of your photo is simple (not much detail or the detail is blurred using a low number aperture) so we see the subject better.

Foreground, Midground, Background (all in ONE photo)Foreground = things in the photo closest to the photographerBackground = things in the photo farthest from the photographerMidground = things in the photo between the foreground and background

Rule of thirdsThe frame is divided into thirds (the lines are imaginary) and you compose your image so your subject is ON one of the imaginary lines (not between them).

Interesting Angle of Your ChoicePhotograph your subject from a very interesting angle (but NOT eye level, bird’s eye, or worm’s eye)

Eye LevelTake a photo from your subject’s eye level. Hint 1: The camera should be at the subject’s eye level, NOT your eye level so subject must be higher or lower than you. Hint 2: Do NOT just take a photo of someone’s eye. That is not eye level.

Bird’s EyeTake a photo looking down at your subject from above.
