NOTICEStarke County may be awarded funds made available through the Departmentof Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency underthe Emergency Food and Shelter National Board for Phase 38.Starke County will tentatively be awarded $9,442 to supplement existing emer-gency food and shelter programs in the county.

The National Board allocated funds to be distributed to cities and countiesthat are low-income and have a high unemployment rate. The National Boardis chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal EmergencyManagement Agency and consists of representatives from Salvation Army;American Red Cross; The Jewish Federations of North America; CatholicCharities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; andUnited Way Worldwide.The Starke County Emergency Food & Shelter Board, comprised of local rep-

resentatives from the groups listed above, will determine how the tentativefunds awarded to Starke County are to be distributed among the emergencyfood and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area to helppeople with economic emergencies (not disaster-related). The local board isresponsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any addi-tional funds available under this phase of the program.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosento receive funds must: 1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of govern-ment, 2) have an accounting system, 3) practice non-discrimination, 4) havedemonstrated capability to deliver food and/or shelter programs, 5) if they area private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board and 6) beeligible to receive federal funds (have a DUNS number). Qualifying agenciesare urged to apply.

Jeff worked his entire life as atruck driver. He enjoyed workingon trucks and spending time withhis rescued animals. Jeff lovedhis grandchildren very much. He is survived by his wife, Kellie,

two sons: Robert Jeffrey(Richelle) Winstead, Jr. andJohnny Winstead, two stepdaughters: Lacie (Josh) Burnsideand Lindsey (Rich) Edmondson,5 grandchildren, his mother, MaryLoyce (Howton) Winstead Felton,one sister, Tammy Long and onebrother, Joe (Darrell) Winstead.He was preceded in death by hisfather, Robert Smith Winstead,and one sister, Lori Hickey.

Clarence was a veteran of theArmy Air Corps. He and Marilynhad been avid square dancers.

KNOX, IN -Mary Lou Simpson,84, of Knox, died at her home onTuesday, November 24, 2020.She was born April 28, 1936 inChicago, Illinois to the late Ferdand Nell Besowshek. On April27, 1957, she married Neil “Bud”Simpson, he preceded her indeath on December 5, 2017.

Mary Lou was a 1954 graduateof Mercy High School in Chicago,she had been a member and pastpresident of the St. ThomasAquinas Altar and Rosary Societyand was a current member of theHoly Cross Catholic Church inHamlet, she loved crossword andjigsaw puzzles, and loved being ahomemaker and mother, grand-mother and great grandmother.She had owned the Pickle BarrelRestaurant from 1985-95, whereshe became known as “MaPickle”.

She is survived by her children,Debbie Simpson, J.D., of St.Charles, IL, Diane Kepa (Chris)of Valparaiso, Jimmy Simpson ofKnox, Sandy Taylor (Jay) of NorthJudson, Lori Waletzko of Knox,Shari Tompkins of Knox, RickSimpson (Geri) of Knox, and RonSimpson of Knox, twelve grand-children and four great grandchil-dren. She was preceded in deathby a sister, Ellen E. Besowshekand a brother, Kenneth F.Besowshek.

KENNETH W. WHILES

KNOX, IN - Kenneth W. Whiles,81, died, Saturday, November 21,2020. He was born October 18,1939 in Crawfordsville, Indiana tothe late Kenneth and Lucille(Perry) Whiles. On June 10, 1959he married Carolyn Esry.

Kenneth had earned a Mastersof Divinity and had pastored sev-eral churches before settling intohis career as owner and operatorof Starke County Abstract inKnox. He was a very activemember and Deacon of the KnoxFirst Christian Church, perform-ing dozens of weddings andfunerals over the years, and heespecially enjoyed participating inchurch camp. He was also veryactive in the community as aMajor in the Civil Air Patrol, a longtime board member of the KnoxKiwanis Club, participated formany years in the BusinessmenRead program reading to schoolchildren, played Santa Claus atcivic events throughout the cityand county, and was an avid HamRadio Operator (W9MTE).

He is survived by his wife,Carolyn, one son, Christopher(Lisa) Whiles of Knox, two grand-children and one sister, MarthaSellers of North Salem, Indiana.

A celebration of life will be heldat a later date.

Joseph was a member of theLocal 150 and worked as anoperating engineer. He was amember of St Peters LutheranChurch. He enjoyed aviation andworking on cars. Joseph's great-est passion was watching hisgirls play sports and spendingtime with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Kelly,three daughters: MollyMcDonald, Delaney McDonaldand Teagan McDonald, all of SanPierre, his mother, Judith Borroelof Hammond, Indiana, two broth-ers: Jamie (Christina) McDonaldof Crown Point, Indiana andDavid (Kristin) Gartrell ofGeneva, Illinois. He was preced-ed in death by his father Joseph,one brother, Shawn Borroel andone sister Janice Moskalick.

KNOX, IN - KNOX – JosephBradley Jr., 79, died in his home,Friday, November 20, 2020. Hewas born on June 13, 1941 inKnox to the late Joseph and Ethel(Whitaker) Bradley Sr. OnAugust 13, 2003 in Gatlinburg,Tennessee, he married CathyTomblin.

Joe was a retired Police Officerwho served faithfully for over 30years at each police departmentin Starke County, but best knownfor this time serving the StarkeCounty Sheriff Department. Hewas also a member of theFraternal Order of Police and theStarke County Sheriff Posse. Joewas an avid horseman and wastruly one of the last real cowboys.He loved participating in rodeos,horse shows, camping, and hunt-ing. Most of all, he cherished hisfamily.Joe is survived by his wife Cathy

of Knox, two sons: Quintin(Jackie) Bradley of Plymouth,Indiana and Mark Bradley ofKnox, one daughter, Tammy(David Holdread) Craft of Knox,two grandchildren, two brothers:Harold (Fern) Bradley and Gene(Irene) Bradley, both of Knox andtwo sisters: Arlene Willis ofFlorida and Jeanette Telfer ofTexas. He is preceded in deathby two infant daughters and onesister Loretta Ecker.

Dorsie had worked at TeledyneIndustries in LaPorte until heretired. He loved spending timewith his family and at cookoutswith an annual volleyball matchand basketball game with them. He is survived by his wife, Linda,

his children: Shanell (Thomas)Wagers, Tony (Cheryl) Patrick,Roger (Peggy) Patrick and GlennPatrick, all of Knox. Nine grand-children, fifteen great-grandchil-dren, siblings: Marie (Edgar)Smith, of Knox and Jim (Carol)Patrick of Plymouth, Indiana. Hewas preceded in death by his par-ents, one grandson, Tyler Patrickand siblings: Ina O’Hara, MedaBlair, Homer Patrick Jr., SusieSellers, Otis Patrick, HershelPatrick, Luther Patrick, JaniceWhite, and Don Patrick.

KNOX, IN - Ryan J. Lockridge, 40years old, died at 11:07 a.m. onFriday, November 20, 2020, atMemorial Hospital, South Bend,Indiana, unexpectedly after a verybrief illness. He was bornSeptember 18, 1980 in LaPorte,Indiana to Gary and Marilyn(Fisher) Lockridge, Sr. On June11, 2011 in South Bend, he mar-ried Heather M. Hohulin.

In 1999, Ryan graduated fromNorth Judson San Pierre HighSchool and graduated in 2003 witha Bachelor’s degree in Historyfrom Valparaiso University. Ryanloved to travel and visited 5 differ-ent continents and was able to goon missionary trips includingMexico, Honduras and Brazil. Heworked for Logan Industries fornearly 3 years as a training super-visor helping clients to work in afactory setting.

He is survived by his wife,Heather, his parents, Gary andMarilyn, two sisters, Tara (Ron)Pitts and Angel (Austin) Lockridge,both of North Judson; two broth-ers, Gary (Laura) Lockridge, Jr. ofPlymouth, and Seth (Serena)Lockridge of Rochester.Preceding Ryan in death were hisgrandparents Grace and CecilFisher and Ida and EverettLockridge.

A Private Celebration Servicewas held on Tuesday, December1, with Pastor Jordan Muck andPastor Craig Clapper officiating.Contributions in memory of RyanJ. Lockridge may be donatedLogan Center, Dustin’s Place, St.Jude Children’s ResearchHospital, or to Riley Hospital forChildren.
