On small teeth, the guard may be a bit high so the height was adjusted with a high speed bur to improve visual access during the cavity preparation.

The WedgeGuard from Triodent is the latest addition to their acclaimed V3 system. It is designed to protect adjacent teeth during cavity preparation. The metal protector is attached to a conventional Wave-Wedge which means it does not have to be discarded once the restoration phase of the treatment has been reached. Instead, the metal protector is simply removed from the Wave-Wedge, which is then used to adapt the Tab Matrix to the gingival floor of the cavity, without the additional expense of having to use a different wedge. Various research papers report that iatrogenic damage to adjacent teeth can be in excess of 90% irrespective of the use of magnification.A patient presented with primary cavities on both the mesial and distal of the second premolar. The adjacent teeth were unrestored so WedgeGuards were used to avoid the risk of any damage to those teeth. The security provided by the WedgeGuards allows for more rapid cavity preparation and establishment of bevels without the risk of damaging the adjacent intact teeth.
There was insufficient movement in the teeth to allow for the placement of two WedgeGuards. The mesial WedgeGuard was placed first.

Following completion of the mesial cavity, the metal protector is removed with a pair of Pin-Tweezers, leaving the Wave-Wedge in place.
The WedgeGuard provides excellent security while preparing the margins of the cavity.
The second WedgeGuard was then easily placed to protect the distal once the pressure associated with the mesial WedgeGuard had been removed.

Completed distal cavity. The metal protector is now removed and the wedges are eased out to allow for the placement of the V3 Tab Matrices. The wedge is then repositioned and the V3 Rings placed to secure the matrices and control the contact points.
