In the Summerme Many thanks to everyone, who has been sending in items for our farm themed Summer Fayre on Saturday 7 July from 1.00-4.00 pm. Farm related items are especially appreciated, as are teddies, toys, books, CD’s, DVD’s and unwanted giſts for Tombola prizes. Next Monday is our Jolly Bag Muſti Day, when children can come to school in home clothes in return for donang a Jolly Bag. A Jolly Bag is a giſt bag, which has been filled with a number of small giſts, toys, sweees, etc, and can be labelled as suitable for a boy or for a girl. The Jolly Bag stall at the Fayre is always one of the most popular with our children and sells out very quickly. We are praying for good weather as we do our best to raise funds for playground markings and outdoor equipment to enhance our children’s break and lunchme play experiences. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible, so please bring your families and friends with you. Thank you in advance for your support. Time to Inspire All our Year 3 and Year 4 trombonists in Marnique will have the privilege of taking part in the Dudley Performing Arts Inspire Concert at Dudley Town Hall on Thursday 28 June. The event is a culminaon of a year’s work for many hundreds of children and will enable our pupils to play in a huge orchestra with other children, advanced students, students from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and a small group of professional musicians. We also wish our choir all the best for their performance and parcipaon in the Stourbridge Key Stage 2 Music Fesval next week at Oldswinford Hospital School. They sound amazing in rehearsal and are bound to impress. In a Different Class Thank you for turning out in such numbers and giving us your posive support at our Transion Meengs last Monday. We explained how the financial pressures of inadequate funding and rising costs are forcing us to restructure classes at the upper end of our school and move to having three mixed Year 5 & Year 6 classes, just as we have in Year 1 & Year 2 and Year 3 & Year 4. We are pleased that we have been able to put arrangements into place, which will enable both Year 5 and Year 6 to connue to be taught in pure year band groups for English and Maths every morning. This means that we shall sll pursue our proven approaches, which have enabled our children to achieve such successful outcomes for the last 8 years. Maths will be taught in ability groups, while English will be taught in mixed ability groups. Mrs Remmers and Miss Midgley will teach Year 5, while Miss Cook and Miss Tang will teach Year 6. Science and Compung will also be taught in pure year band groupings for two aſternoons per week. Make sure you aend our ‘Welcome to Your New Class’ meengs in September. You will meet your child’s teaching team and get important informaon on the learning expectaons and curriculum content for your child’s new year band. All our children have now chosen their Learning Friends and Mrs Remmers is busy pung our new classes together ready for September. Swim Safe Sessions With the warm weather coming, would your
child know what to do if they found themselves in open water?
Swim Safe are offering free sessions in August at Swan Pool in Sandwell Valley Country Park.
Swim Safe teaches children aged 7-14 essential water safety skills through a fun session delivered by trained instructors.
Children learn where is safe to swim, how to float, what to do if something goes wrong and
how to call for help if someone else is in trouble.
You can book the sessions by visiting swimsafe.org.uk/book-your-session and put in
"West Bromwich" as the location.
PLEASE NOTE: Your child must be able to swim a minimum of 25 metres to take part.
Head Lice—Once a Week, Take a Peek
We have had a case of head lice reported in school .
We recommend checking hair for head lice regularly. If head lice are found, the following steps will help to eliminate them.
Wash the hair using ordinary shampoo and apply plenty of conditioner, before using a wide-toothed comb to straighten and untangle the hair.
Once the comb moves freely through the hair without dragging, switch to a louse detection comb. Make sure the teeth of the comb slot into the hair at the roots, with the bevel-edge of the teeth lightly touching the scalp.
Draw the comb down to the ends of the hair with every stroke and check the comb for lice.
Remove lice by wiping or rinsing the comb.
Work methodically through the hair, section by section, so that the whole head is combed through.
Rinse out conditioner and repeat the combing procedure.
Repeat the procedure on days three, six, nine, 12 and 15, so that you clear young lice as they hatch, before they have time to reach maturity.
To be or not to be ….
on a Year 5 Residential!
Have a thought this evening for our Year 5 children, who have just returned from their Shakespeare residential at YHA Stratford-upon-Avon. Hemmingford House is a magnificent Georgian mansion, set in three acres of grounds. The children were certainly making the most of the idyllic setting as they played cricket and climbed the
trees in the evening sunshine, when I visited. They have also worked with Shakespearean actors to develop their own acting skills bringing ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ to life in a series of
drama workshops. I am sure the children will be keen to share their excitement and experiences of a night away from home with their classmates. Many thanks to Mr Dove, Miss Jones and Mrs Taylor for
accompanying the children on this educational visit.
