What is WebRTCWeb Real-Time Communication

1. WebRTC is a free, open project that enables web browsers with Real-Time Communications (RTC) capabilities via simple JavaScript (Application Programming interface)APIs. The WebRTC components have been optimized to best serve this purpose.

Our mission: To enable rich, high quality, RTC applications to be developed in the browser via simple JavaScript APIs and HTML5.

The WebRTC initiative is a project supported by Google, Mozilla and Opera. This page is maintained by the Google Chrome team. http://www.webrtc.org/

2. WebRTC is an API definition drafted by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) that supports browser-to-browser applications for voice calling, video chat, and P2P file sharing without plugins. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebRTC

Why is it different? WebRTC offers web application developers the ability to write rich, real-time multimedia applications (think video chat) on the web, without requiring plugins, downloads or installs. It's purpose is to help build a strong RTC platform that works across multiple web browsers, across multiple platforms.

Is this a Game changer???•Extension is all about relationships. In-person, virtual, visual, web-based, hard-copy, phone call, email, snail-mail. •Would this allow Extension to have better relationships with our clientele?•Click on a link on your particular Extension home page or possibly the “ask and expert” and have RTC immediately.•Since it is all done in the browser – what hardware/software resources would that affect.

Is this a Game changer???•How would this affect the current status quo of our usual suspects now:

H.323 Videoconferencing, Lync, Connect, Google Hangouts, Go To Meeting, WebEx, BlueJeans, and all the other new players in the Unified Communications (UC) field?

•Will they, or we, embrace or shun this approach?

Where is it Going?•Much depends on the industry and user acceptance.•Interoperability is key – for this and other technologies mentioned.

H.323 Videoconferencing, Lync, Connect, Google Hangouts, Go To Meeting, WebEx, Skype, BlueJeans, other new entries in the market.

•Security – will WebRTC and its Interop proponents meet DARPA and expected security levels?
