Newham Music TrustNewham Music Trust (NMT) is a highly effective, successful and award-winning music education provider working with children and young people, schools, families and communities throughout the borough of Newham. NMT also runs Newham Academy of Music, a thriving after-school and weekend music academy. Newham Music Trust is the lead organisation for the award winning Newham Music Hub, supported by funding from the Department of Education through Arts Council England.

Purpose of the JobTo be a key member of the Leadership Team and work to ensure that the educational aims and services are delivered across all schools, families and communities in Newham. You will be responsible for ensuring services are effective, efficient and in line with probity and governance requirements. The Business and Operations Manager will ensure resources are managed to deliver high levels of achievement for NMT.

This is a strategic role and the postholder will be responsible for managing, advising, and overseeing the work of the Finance, Administration, Premises, Health and Safety and Human Resource functions for NMT.

The postholder will have the ability to motivate and inspire those that they work with, break through the barriers of expectations and harness all opportunities to create a climate of success and achievement for all.

This post will initially be for a fixed term period up to the end of the current funding agreement, 31 st March 2020, however, we have been in receipt of funding since 1996 and we fully expect it to continue post 1 st April 2020.

Key Accountabilities:

Financial Resource Management.

Monitor and oversee the agreed budgets for all NMT activities. Identify and inform the CEO of the causes of significant variance and take prompt correct

action. Assist the CEO with the preparation of the annual budget Provide regularly, budgetary information for relevant people which will include reporting to

Trustees. Maintain accurate records in relation to grant funded activity and prepare reports for

funding bodies as required, including business planning, financial and statistical returns to Arts Council England in relation to the Music Education Grant.

Ensure the Trust receives value for money. Oversee that systems and procedures for financial transactions are recorded and reported

accurately. Oversee all cash transactions within the Trust.

Administration Management

Oversee the whole administration function for NMT. Induction and training of NMT administrators. To provide cover for absence of NMT administrators. Support the NMT administration staff in maintaining administrative systems based on NMT’s

aims and goals. Support the NMT administration staff in preparing information for publications and returns

for relevant agencies. To develop administrative systems that respond to the needs of the Trust.

Human Resource Management Support the CEO in the operation of the payroll services & contract information for all NMT

staff. Ensure that all recruitment, appraisal, staff development, grievance, disciplinary and

redundancy policies and procedures comply with legal and regulatory requirements. Undertake management of all personnel contracts providing recommendations/guidance

on a range of HR issues, such as managing absence, capability, annual leave, working conditions.

Support with the recruitment, performance management, appraisal and development for all support staff when required.

See and make use of specialist expertise in relation to HR issues. Identify the types of skills, knowledge, understanding and experience required to

undertake existing and future planned activities.

Facility & Property Management Support the NMT administration staff in the maintenance and security of the NMT

premises. Assist the CEO with identifying Capital maintenance projects. Support the NMT administration staff in effectively managing ancillary services eg

catering, cleaning etc.

Health & Safety Be the designated lead member of NMT’s Leadership Team for health & safety. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.

Management of Staff Ensure key administration staff are efficient and effective. Provide leadership, motivation and support of administrative staff. Actively contribute to the development of quality improvement

programmes across the Trust. Proactively implement the Trust’s policies and procedures.

The postholder will be expected to carry out other duties within their competence as required.
