HAROLD BAGGENSTOSS Post 1260 Newsletter, Bemidji, March 2014 COMMANDER Greetings Comrades, This month’s newsletter again comes from your Vice Commander, Dave Christianson as your Post Commander is still visiting Sunny Arizona! I know you’re having fun Bruce, you deserve it! Well, once again here we are looking out at blowing snow and cold, about zero, with the wind at 35-40 mph and tomorrow is supposed to be colder! You were right Bruce, we shouldn’t have let our wives talk us into staying up North for the winter! Ha! Ha! The first game of the indoor Football League between the Axemen and Cedar Rapids Titans took place at the Sanford Center on February 7 th and the VFW was fortunate enough to post the colors for this historic event. It was a great game which the Axemen led for three quarters but were finally beaten in the fourth quarter, 30 to 42! Their next home game is tomorrow evening with the VFW again posting the colors. This month produced a very busy schedule for me running to Fargo, ND and then Minneapolis, MN to the University Amplatz Children’s Hospital as our grandson was born 2 months premature and has heart problems which need to be repaired before he can go home. He was supposed to have heart surgery this past Wednesday, February 19 th but had to be postponed because of complications. Now we are awaiting news of a rescheduled date so we can be there when the surgery takes place.

COMMANDER

Greetings Comrades,

This month’s newsletter again comes from your Vice Commander, Dave Christianson as your Post Commander is still visiting Sunny Arizona!

Ha! Ha!

The first game of the indoor Football League between the Axemen and Cedar Rapids Titans took place at the Sanford Center on February 7th and the VFW was fortunate enough to post the colors for this historic event. It was a great game which the Axemen led for three quarters but were finally beaten in the fourth quarter, 30 to 42! Their next home game is tomorrow evening with the VFW again posting the colors.

This month produced a very busy schedule for me running to Fargo, ND and then Minneapolis, MN to the University Amplatz Children’s Hospital as our grandson was born 2 months premature and has heart problems which need to be

repaired before he can go home. He was supposed to have heart surgery this past Wednesday, February 19th but had to be postponed because of complications. Nowwe are awaiting news of a rescheduled date so we can be there when the surgery takes place. Just found out he will have surgery Friday, February 28, 2014. We will leave Thursday the 27th for Mpls Children’s Hospital.

On a lighter Note:

Government surveyors came to Ole’s farm inthe fall and asked if they could do some surveying. Ole agreed, and Lena even served them a nice meal at noon time. The next spring, the two surveyors stopped by and told Ole, "Because you were so kind to us, we wanted to give you this bad news in person instead of by letter." Ole replied, "What's the bad news?" The surveyors stated, "Well, after our work here, we discovered your farm is not in Minnesota but is actually in Wisconsin!" Ole looked at Lena and said, "That's the best news I have heard in a long time. I just told Lena this morning that I don't think I can take another winter in Minnesota." Especially this winter!!!!!

Next Meeting is March 4, 2014

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER

Greetings Fellow Veterans/Friends,

Page 3: €¦ · Web viewApril meeting there will be nominations of officers for coming year 2013 and 2014. Elections will be held in May. Elections will be held in May. Please, if you know

I pray this finds you all warm and safe on these bitter winter days. I’m always grasping for topics for the Newsletter every month that will have meaning and effect.

So as I pondered and searched for material I came across info on the internet about the power of prayer. It’s scientifically and theologically proven there are at least 47 proven benefits of prayers, from the strengthening of the brain against Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, depression, improving concentration, problem solving and etc. Physical and mental changes take place while praying. It has nothing to do with what religious denomination one belongs to or what name is on the church door, but a true spiritual, honest relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. King David gave thanks to the Lord saying - Bless the Lord….who heals all diseases. Psalms 103:2-3. Please also read Exodus 15:26.

The story of Jabez in I Chronicles says - And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my coast and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me. And God granted him that which he requested. This prayer, or power asked and granted around 5,000 years ago is the same power available to you today.

On June 25, 1962 the Supreme Court revoked and forbade the free exercise of voluntary prayer in schools. Never before in history had this government offence been taken. Professional

graphs and study have shown the moral decline of the Nation since then, and it’s much noticed in today’s standard of life. Our Nation’s founding

fathers strongly believed in prayer and it’s results. George Washington and Benjamin Franklin believed that prayer could and would change the course of a Nation. Benjamin Franklin said, “The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of man”.

So Veterans, good bye for now. I need to quit to stay within word count (smile). It’s very important for you to establish a good and proper prayer life praying to the Heavenly Father in Jesus Name.

Isaiah 53:5

He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed.

Treasurer’s Report

Hello Auxiliary Sisters,

Hoping that you are keeping warm and healthy during these blizzard days.  I am hibernating.

Congratulations are in order for our Chaplain Lila Mattingly who was united in marriage to Richard J. Cutbank, on the 18th of January.  May God Bless them with His love, joy, and peace. Send them a card through the Auxiliary and we will forward them.

We are getting ready to fill out the annual reports.  Anyone having done any community service at hospitals, nursing homes, home bound, mailing cards and other things, please contact Margie or me, so she can put these in the reports, in this way the Auxiliary can receive credit.  Keep warm.
