June 2015
Happy June, Ladies! Summer is in full blaze, and we have a lot of HOT NAWIC business on the horizon.
We kicked off our summer fun with our last Region 5 Forum, in Biloxi. The ladies of the Missis-sippi Gulf Coast Chapter did an outstanding job. If you were unable to attend, there are some great photos within the newsletter. From a personal perspective, I had never attended a Regional Forum, and I found that it was very beneficial professionally. It was a great opportunity to net-work with ladies from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and many other states. I am honored that I have had the opportunity to be the President of the New Orleans Chapter this past year. As my year will be coming to end in just a few short months, I have learned so much from the leadership and confidence of so many of my NAWIC sisters, and I am so inspired by each and every one of you ladies. I hope that if you are a new, tentative, or a retired member, you remember how beneficial you and your experiences are to every other member---not only within our chapter, but the entire organization. So, if you do not have the burn for NAWIC yet, ladies, get your sunglasses on and get inspired. I look forward to seeing everyone at our June meeting, to celebrate the young minds of our future.
Yours Very Truly,

The construction industry im-
pacts every aspect of society.
Whether architect, engineer, inte-
rior decorator, electrician, or
draftsman, the skilled construc-
tion worker makes our world a
better place to live, work, and
enjoy life. Yet, many of our young
people cannot complete their
educations because of lack of
funds.
For over 30 years, the New Or-
leans chapter of NAWIC has met
this challenge by providing schol-
arships to qualified Louisiana
men and women studying for
careers in the construction indus-
try.
We are proud of our association
with the Greater New Orleans
Foundation. Through NAWIC
Chapter 17 Scholarship Founda-
tion’s GNOF Endowment Fund,
contributions are held in steward-
ship, to insure that scholarship
money will always be ready when
needed. Half of all the future
contributions will be placed in
our Endowment Fund. The other
half will be used for immediate
scholarship aid.
Please help us support Louisiana’s
young workers by giving gener-
ously to the NAWIC Chapter 17
Scholarship foundation. Your gift
is fully tax deductible under Sec-
tion 170 of the Internal Revenue
Code.

The NAWIC Chapter 17 Scholarship Foundation Committee is looking for members to join this committee, especially new members who would like to become more involved. Please email Nyra Canales, at ncanales@ mccgroup.com, or call her at 504/270-5583.
The Scholarship Foundation is asking all
Chapter 17 members to bring a bottle of wine
or other alcohol to the June meeting, for the
Bingo Fundraiser, to be used for their “Big Prize
Game.” Thank you very much for your help!!!
The Committee is also asking everyone to bring donations for their upcoming BINGO Fundraiser to the
June General Meeting. They are looking for such items as cash, gift baskets, bottles of wine, gift cards, or
other nice items that can be used as prizes for the Bingo winners. Donations of food (soft drinks, beer,
wine, snacks, etc., to be sold on the night of the fundraiser are also very much needed. Thank you!!!

BUILDING
WITH
BINGO!
` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
As most of you are already aware, the NAWIC Scholarship
Foundation is hosting “Building with Bingo” on Wednesday,
July 22. Included in this newsletter is a “Building with Bingo!”
flyer you can send along to friends and family. Our goal is 120
participants, so we need to get the word out there!!! We can set up
a special “RESERVED” table for your group or company for up to
10. Just call Nita-Joan Sams or Cathie Robin (RSVP information
on flyer.)
In order for the bingo to be a success, we also need “cash” dona-
tions. Attached is a “blank” cover letter you can send out, but, if
you want to personalize it, just let me know and I can send you the
Word version. Also attached is a form with different levels of
sponsorship. Or, if you send me the name of potential donors, I
can send out the letter personally. Whatever you think will work
best for that situation is fine.
If you cannot get any cash donations, we also need “prize”
donations for the Bingo. This would be gift cards or any other
baskets or prizes to give away for the bingo game winners and the
parade of prizes.
Separately, donations of wine, beer, and soft drinks are needed
to sell at the bingo. Nothing is too small or too big!
If you cannot bring it to the June Chapter meeting, let me know and
I will gladly come pick it up from you.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Nyra
