The business I have chosen to profile will be Gilhooley’s Grande Salon, a Saint Xavier

Staple for students, alumni, and the local community alike. I choose Gilhooleys because I

honestly eat there twice a week. I love this place and I think that if they hire a social media

manager they will upgrade as a business in whole. I will be constructing a plan to reboot their

social media presence across multiple platforms while also updating their strategies for drawing

in their customer base of primarily college aged students by hiring a social media manager.

Below are some important things that a Social Media Manager should be skilled at.

The main problem faced by Gilhooley’s is their social media presence. Gilhooley’s

posting across their social media platforms (twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) has been on the

side of being more sporadic as opposed to constant in, a way to keep their new information at the

front and center of their customer base’s newsfeeds. Also, their posts are not inspiring interaction

from their customer base, receiving little to no comments and likes. Their social media

campaigning fails to draw interest from their proposed customer base of college students by not

grabbing their attention, which fails to draw in customers. While visiting Gilhooleys for

breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the restaurant is never packed or filled with people. This could be

due to the lack of their social media presence. According the Pew Research Center this graphic

below shows how often people check social media daily.

The graph above us just shows how important it is to update the Gilhooleys social media

pages. There are 51% of adults who check Facebook several times a day. 38% of adults

check Instagram several times a day and 26% of adults who check Twitter several times a

day.

The solution to Gilhooley’s problem is hire someone with a plan to modernize

Gilhooley’s social media presence and create posts that inspire interaction from those

who see it. The social media presence needs to better showcase what Gilhooley’s has to

offer in terms of food and entertainment and also needs to foster an environment of.

Social media manager would create posts with open ended questions for the public to

answer, offer customers the chance to have their Gilhooley’s pictures featured on the

Gilhooley’s official page, and also create social media contests (polls, voting, design

contests) that encourage those viewing to interact. As being a college student, I enjoy

taking polls from Instagram. If I were to see Gilhooleys do this, I would see that they are

on top of keeping up with their followers. I also love when they post something where

you could take a vote on it. For example, they could say “Would you rather have a drink

deal on beer or wells vodka for Friday night?” Then the followers could go and vote on

what they would like better. This could bring in a huge crowd Friday night.

After doing research on the hourly fee cost of a social media manager I found out that

most people make around $15.00 - $100.00 an hour. It seemed like it’s based off how much

experience you have with working with social media as well as how much schooling you have.

What else Gilhooleys can do is hire someone who already works there to be in charge of their

social media pages. The average Social Media manager makes about 54,238 a year. In all honesty, I

doubt Gilhooleys would hire someone to pay them this much yearly but if they want to attain better

business they would. Obviously if they were to hire someone who just came out of college with little

experience, there pay would be way less but if they were to hire someone with a lot of experience and

someone who is going to check/ update their social media pages mutiple times a day then they would

find a right amount of payment for them.

This way they could always update their profile while working. They could post things

about having bingo night and the prizes that will be given out to the winner. Whenever they have

special drink deals, they could post on their Facebook or Instagram about it. Gilhooleys also

have tacos Tuesday and breakfast for dinner some nights. Another good idea is that everyone

who works at Gilhooleys could all have access to their social media pages and whenever

someone is working, they could post a picture of their customers having a great time or even

their delicious made food. I think this will attract a lot of customers especially the college

students. According to Socialmedalink.com, Social media has given consumers the power to

spread information to hundreds, if not thousands, of people in a matter of seconds.  For the

restaurant industry, which relies heavily on reviews and recommendations, this means every

customer now has the power of a well-acclaimed critic. According to socialsprout.com this

graphics explains how many times someone needs to see something before purchase.

So, for example if Gilhooleys came out with a new dish, Customers will want to see this

dish posted multiple times before going to the restaurant and ordering it. If Gilhooleys is

not active on social media, they can miss out on a large customer base.

Next, every customer loves giving feedback whether its on how good the food was, or

how well the service is, or even the cleanliness of the restaurant. Customers want to know that

their voice and opinions are getting heard. We could make this happen by having the social

media manager being on top of the feedback from customers. This person would have to check

the social media often as every few hours.

After that is the Necessary criteria and Desirable criteria for hiring a social media

manager. These are important questions that the staff might ask them selves while trying to hire a

social media manager in order to get the job done.

By attracting more customers, the business itself will have a larger amount of assets. It

will benefit the staff because it will, hopefully, later allow them to get paid more as well as allow

them to interact with different types of customers. I also believe that it will benefit the consumers

because it will give them the option to dine at an amazing local restaurant with great ambiance.

This will allow the consumers to know what the restaurant is up to, such as specials or events. It

is known the more hashtags you use the more people will look at you page and you will get more

followers and likes on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Below is an Instagram post that Sweetthangzllc had posted on a sweet treat. I am

showing you an example that Gilhooleys could use to post their desserts. Gilhooleys sells a

cookie sundae and a brownie Sundae. They could easily post a picture of that and use hashtags

such as #Brownie, #Cookie, #dessert, #Gilhooleys. They don’t only have to do this with desserts

they could post about the amazing nachos or pastas they have.

Another company who does a good job on always posting on social media is Texas Road

House. Here is a link to show you what they post and how often they post. Texas Road house

does a great job editing their pictures to make the food look extra tasty. They use a lot of

hashtags and post a lot. They allow comments on there pictures so their followers could

comment whatever they like on it.

In conclusion, we believe it would be a smart idea for Gilhooleys to hire a Social Media

Manager to revamp Gilhooley’s social media presence and interaction. The reason behind this is

because the more they post on social media the more customers they could bring in. Social

Media helps get things more well-known and this is a great way to make restaurants more

popular because more people will hear about it. Hiring a Social Media Manager would be ideal

for their company and customers.
