Five Facts About Money

I. It ___________ people – v. 8-9

If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent perversion of justice and righteousness in a province, do not marvel at the matter; for high official watches over high official, and higher officials are over them. Moreover the profit of the land is for all; even the king is served from the field.

In some places you will see poor people mistreated. Don’t be surprised when they are not treated fairly or given their rights. One officer is cheated by a higher officer who in turn is cheated by even higher officers. The wealth of the country is divided up among them all. Even the king makes sure he gets his share of the profits. (NCV)

II. It ___________ people – v. 10

He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.

There is nothing wrong with having money, or even being wealthy. There are a lot of very wealthy people in the Bible:

Money is very useful if used correctly. However, wealth is wrong when you ______ it, more than you ______ God.

Why do you suppose the currency of the United States has…

In verse 10 - “He who love silver…”

“For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (I Timothy 6:10).

Deception is a terrible thing... The preacher has this to say to the individuals who have been deceived with the love of money, “This is also vanity.”

The Story of Prince’s Estate

IV. It ___________ people – v. 12

The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, Whether he eats little or much; But the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep.

Here in this verse we are given a contrast between two people. The working man, and the rich man. Let’s take a look at these two people:

1. The working man.2. The rich man.

V. It ______________ people – v. 13-17 There is a severe evil which I have seen under the sun: Riches kept for their owner to his hurt. But those riches perish through misfortune; When he begets a son, there is nothing in his hand. As he came from his mother's womb, naked shall he return, To go as he came; And he shall take nothing from his labor Which he may carry away in his hand. And this also is a severe evil-- Just exactly as he came, so shall he go. And what profit has he who has labored for the wind? All his days he also eats in darkness, And he has much sorrow and sickness and anger. There are three truths about how wealth disappoints people. They are:

1. Riches kept for their owner to his _______. 3

2. Those riches perish through __________.

3. No one can take it with ________.

The preacher says that this is another “severe evil”. The point is that wealth (RICHES) can’t help you when it is your appointed time to die.

Verse 17 - “All his days he also eats in darkness, And he has much sorrow and sickness and anger.”

What is the Answer to Money and Wealth?

1. Enjoy the good of your ________ – v. 18

Here is what I have seen: It is good and fitting for one to eat and drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor in which he toils under the sun all the days of his life which God gives him; for this is his heritage.

2. If God has given you riches, wealth, and the ability to enjoy them, it’s a ________ from God. – v. 19

As for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, and given him power to eat of it, to receive his heritage and rejoice in his labor--this is the gift of God.

3. Don’t look back and regret life, look at the _________ and enjoy what God keeps you busy with – v. 20

For he will not dwell unduly on the days of his life, because God keeps him busy with the joy of his heart.
