Activity:

● Before listening to the story, tell students that they are going to make conclusions. A conclusion is when readers use what they know and information from the story to help them figure out what is happening.

● Listen to I Love Bugs by Philemon Sturges● When story is finished ask about the spider (p10-11). What made

the web? How do you know? The words tell me that this bug weaves. I see a picture of a spider. I know that spiders weave webs. I think the spider made the web. You have just made a conclusion.

Try again on g18-19. What time of day is it? How do you know? It is night. I know because I see stars and the moon out. I also see a light on. The words also say that the bugs blink at night.

● On a sheet of paper, draw a picture to answer this question: Who is the boy's sister? Write a sentence to tell me how you know. Be sure to put date on top of page.

Modifications: Listen to the story as many times as you need to.

This week we are going to start writing a “How To” book. A “How To” book is like a book of directions or instructions on how to do something. You could tell someone “how to” make their bed, ride a bike, build a lego house, make a sandwich or anything else that you think you are good at. When we are finished all of the lessons in this unit, you will have made your very own “How To” book.

To complete this unit, it would be easiest if an adult could print out the activity pages for you to work on BUT they do not need to. You can always do your work in your notebook or on a separate piece of paper.
