24th November, 2018 (Hong Kong) ―― To inspire secondary school students to start early life planning, Project WeCan kicked off its annual Shape Our Future: WeCan! - Project WeCan Career Exploration Day today. For the fourth consecutive year, the event aims at providing students with all-rounded and one-stop career guidance and actual job tasting.
The event was arranged to be conducted over two days on 24 th November, 2018 and 26th January, 2019 at Youth College (Yeo Chei Man), Tseung Kwan O, covering more than 5,500 F.4 – F.6 students from 76 schools. During the day, a variety of activities including job tasting, star talks (see Appendix I), mock interviews and workshops, and parents’ / teachers’ workshops were conducted.
Mr. Sunny Lo, Chairman of Café de Coral Holdings Limited, a new corporate partner of Project WeCan officiated the event along with Mr. Douglas Woo, Patron of Project WeCan; Mr. Stephen Ng, Chairman of Project WeCan Committee; Mrs. Patricia Ling, President of YWCA; Mr. Kenneth Tsang, Acting Secretary of the Secretariat of Advisory Committee of the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged; and Mr. Edmond Yu, Acting Deputy Executive Director of VTC.
Addressing the students at the ceremony, Mr. Stephen Ng said, “Project WeCan has launched Phase III in September, when we are going into a new milestone, Hong Kong is also stepping into a new era. With the commissioning of XRL and the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge opened, Hong Kong’s position in the development of the Greater Bay Area is enhanced. Today, the door to the world has been opened, you just have to seize the unlimited opportunities actively. But chances are for people who are prepared, I hoped that everyone can Open your eyes, Open your mind and Open your heart, enhancing yourself and create your world.”
Mr. Sunny Lo, Chairman of Café de Coral Holdings Limited, emphasized that attitude is the key to success. He encouraged the young people to keep their mind open to new knowledge which is a driving force for self-improvement. Passion to learn and boldness to try are important too. Positive attitude, working hard and life-long learning will make success possible. He hoped students can take the first step by actively participating in today’s programme with a view to pursue their goals.
More than 30 job tasters, covering 19 industries, were on display this year (See Appendix II), providing more than 300 sessions of job tasting. Among them are job types in need of new talents to sustain.
