Today we will discuss where we can find water. We will look at a globe and distinguish the color blue representing water and green land. We will look at pictures of globes and a real globe and talk about the water all around us. We will discuss the oceans, lakes and rivers we can see in visuals.

Today we will continue to discuss the different forms of precipitation, in the form of rain and snow. Water comes in two forms water and ice. When it’s really cold water freezes and snow falls from clouds.

Today we will discuss where we find snow and ice on a globe, and review pictures of a globe. We will talk about the snow in the arctic and look at a picture of a globe to identify the arctic cold areas. The students will color the water blue, the land green and the artic white so students will identify the cold areas.

WritingStuck in the Rain: Invite children to draw, dictate, or write a narrative of a time they were caught in the rain or snow, and how they felt about the experience

ArtMake a snow globe using a paper plate, and clear reynolds wrap, and beads.

LiteracyChoose a book and find letters in the book that have our weekly letter /C/c. Read the word and if the child is capable have them write the letter.

Dramatic Play/ KitchenAdd doll clothes to a basket or bin and pretend to add detergent to the washer machine.

Math Create a collage using big/ little shapes

ScienceSalt and Ice: Supply salt and ice. Invite children to explore how these materials react to each other. Children might want to pour the salt onto the ice or use pipettes to squirt salt water onto the ice. Engage children in conversations to extend their thinking and support their understanding.

Today we will discuss where we can find water in our homes. We list and label water sources on a chart a faucet, sink, shower, tub, hose, sprinkler. Students will wash their hands and discuss water in a faucet.

WritingCopy letters from a book you've just read.ArtPaste straws together to create a pipe/ faucet system. Glue the straws together and discuss water coming from the faucet.

LiteracyRead the sing along letter book, focus on the sound that each letter makes.

Dramatic Play/ KitchenPretend to wash clothes in the laundromat mat

MathSort colors (using toys, crayons, markers, clothes)

ScienceAbsorption: Provide an assortment of absorbent and nonabsorbent materials (e.g., cotton ball, paper towel, penny, spoon), as well as a dish of water and eye droppers or pipettes. Invite children to place a few drops of water onto each item and note whether the item absorbs water. Provide a chart for children to record the results.

BlocksBuild a tunnel: Supply empty, clean cardboard tubes such as paper towels, toilet paper, and wrapping paper tubes. Invite children to pretend the tubes are tunnels and to use them as they build. If children are interested, talk about how tunnels can help people navigate bodies of water.

Sand/ WaterFill the table with dry sand. Provide spray bottles filled with water and invite children to explore the changes in the appearance and texture of the sand as they squirt water on it as well as what happens to the water when it is sprayed on the sand. Remember to leave the lid off the table at the end of the day so the sand can dry.
