Sub Theme/8: Benefits Of A Life That Pleases God.Topic: Not Suffering The Second Death.Texts: Revelation 2: 11; 20:13-14; 21:8.Aims: i. To understand the biblical concept of second death;

ii. To appreciate how and why not being hurt by second death is a benefit.

Introduction: The ‘second death’ is ‘being cast into the lake of fire.’ It is a divine judgment reserved exclusively for the unsaved and all whose lives are not consistent with the scriptures at the time of the judgment. But for those whose lives are pleasing to God, they will “not be hurt by the second death because on such the second death has no power.’’Study Guide1. Read the following scriptures and discuss what you

understand by the second death, Rev.2:11; 20: 6, 14; 21:8.

2. What meaning does the statement “he that overcometh shall not be hurt by the second death’’ (Rev.2:7, 11; 20:6) convey to you?

3. What will enable a person to escape the second death? Rev. 2:11; 20:6; cf. John 3: 3, 5, 16-18.

4. What will then be the blessedness of Christians who escape the second death? Isa.61:6; Rev. 5:10; 20:4, 6.

Conclusion: Be glad and expectant. Living to please God will secure for us a part in a blissful eternity with God. On the other hand, living contrary to God’s standards is an express invitation to the second death. The choice lasts only while we still live on earth. When the books are opened, whoever does not have his name written in the book of life, will be liable to the second death.

Food For Thought: Now or never: Is your name in the book of life?Memory Verse: Rev. 2: 11.these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved

us’’ in the light of 1 John 4:4.

Conclusion: Living to please God draws God nearer and makes Him dwell in us. Thereupon, God empowers us in a way that enables us triumph over the challenges which may come up from time to time. So while man may be helped to overcome certain challenges, total victory is only possible in Christ.

Food For Thought: Christ suffered to secure total victory for us.Memory Verse: Rom. 8:37.

THE HOLY SCRIPTURES.

The Word Scripture is interpreted as the specific literature that the Church receives as divine instruction. It refers to both the Old Testament and New Testament writings.

II Tim. 3:16-17 affirms “that” All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. The Scriptures is the Bible which is God’s original message to humanity and the only infallible witness to God’s saving activity for all people.

God’s Word in both the Old Testament and New Testament are “Theopneustos” without error, absolutely true. Trustworthy and infallible. This is true not only when it speaks of salvation, ethical values and morality but if is genuinely without falt, Historically and when it addresses matters affecting the world (Ps. 119). To deny the full inspiration of the Holy

Scripture is to set aside the fundamental witness of Christ Jesus. Matt. 5:18, Luke 16:7 and to limit or disregard its inerrancy is to impair its divine authority.

It is absolutely necessary for believers to confirm all doctrine commentaries, interpretation, explanations and traditions by using the scriptures to judge and legitimize such through the Word of God (Holy Scripture). God’s word must be received, believed, thought and obeyed as the final authority in all things pertaining to life and

Godliness. The Church must use it as the final authority in all matters for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training. To profess submission to God without ultimate submission to the Word of God is dual standard i.e. Neither hot or cold.

As Christians, we must love the Scripture treasure it and be guarded by it. We must safeguard its doctrine by faithfully adhering to it’s teaching. Proclaiming it’s saving message, entrusting it to reliable people, and defending it against all those who would distort or destroy it’s eternal truths. As we are not permitted to add anything or take away anything from the Scripture (Rev. 22:19). The word of God is germain, we must hide it in our heart, trust in it (Ps. 119:42) and put our hope in His promises (Ps. 119:74) and love according to it (Ps. 119:9). We are to proclaim it wherever we go (Acts 8:4).

God blessyou. C.E.O. Your Friend & Vicar.
