What will I be learning in P6B Term 2 2018-19 Discrete Subjects Literacy Talking and listening skills will be implemented through our “Apprentice “business plans presentations. During Active Literacy in reading, we will be focussing on understanding, analysing and evaluating, with a view to being able to identify the purpose of a text. In our writing, we will be looking at ways to engage and/or influence the reader through vocabulary and/or use of language (Talk for Writing & persuasive writing). During Term 2 in grammar, we will focus on different types of nouns and apostrophes. Weekly spelling activities will help us consolidate spelling patterns and rules. Maths and Numeracy In maths we will be focussing on money and how to budget. This will mainly be through our “Apprentice” business challenge and various other activities. We will also be looking at problem solving through algebra. Our main number focus will be multiplication and division, along with revising addition and subtraction, paying particular attention as to how we set our work out. We will also continue to consolidate previous learning through Mental Maths. Science With our specialist we will be learning about Inheritance and Living and Growing. By investigating the lifecycles of plants and animals, to recognise the different stages of their development. By exploring the characteristics offspring inherit when living things reproduce, distinguish between inherited and non-inherited characteristics. PE We will be taught by our PE Specialist developing our problem solving skills, responsibility and leadership, balance, control and decision making. Modern Foreign Languages Our main focus in French will be learning the vocabulary for sports and games as well as revisiting prior vocabulary and numbers. In German we will be expanding our counting range as well as learning the vocabulary for various pets and classroom objects. Ethos and Wider Life of the School: We are learning to be responsible citizens and developing our awareness of the world through: Buddies With our Nursery buddies we will be continuing to build positive relationships through a variety of curricular activities. Community Learning Teams Each pupil will be part of a community learning team, building relationships with pupils from across the school and developing their knowledge, understanding and skills. Weekly Evaluations Pupils will have the opportunity to evaluate their week of learning by expressing their views on the weekly planner. Also using “Steps to Success” self-evaluation pointers and “what makes a good story/newspaper article” class checklist by critically examining examples of each genre. Houses Each pupil will be an active member of one of the three houses: Maybury, Barnton and Almond. JASS Interdisciplinary Learning: Sexual Health, Relationships and Human Reproduction During our topic we will be looking at how our bodies change physically and emotionally, understanding how this can affect how we feel about ourselves and how we may behave. We will also be learning about human reproduction; how we change, how a human life begins and how a baby is born. Fairtrade During the Fairtrade topic we will learn about the purpose of Fairtrade, to help us understand why it began, the difference it has made to the livelihood of others, sustainability and persuasive language. Christmas This session we will be looking at Christianity and exploring the similarities and differences between Christian beliefs and our own. We will also look at the key features and importance of Christmas as a festival in the past and in today’s society. Building Resilience This term we will be covering “Keep Connected” which will look at the importance of relationships, building friendships and continuing to develop our resilience. Enterprise Fair- the “Apprentice” challenge Pupils will submit business plans in groups. They will be given a budget through the “Virgin Money- Grow £5” scheme, with the aim of making a profit from their product. Pupils will also be responsible for the advertising, making and running of their own stall. Planned Opportunities for Wider Achievement: We are learning to celebrate our achievements through: Book of Achievements Pupils are invited to record their successes in our school book of achievements which is announced in our monthly newsletter. JASS We will be presenting and celebrating our achievements in the “My Interests” award within JASS. Team EC Award Celebrating personal achievement through nomination for the weekly Team EC Award and receiving whole school recognition.
