2016 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SUBSTANCE

ABUSE AWARENESS POSTER CONTEST Each year, councils throughout the country participate in the Knights of Columbus Sub-

stance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest to help make young people in their communi-

ties aware of the dangers of the abuse of drugs and alcohol, to give a positive outlook for

children to embrace, and to help carry them through the peer pressure to use alcohol and

drugs. The posters’ thought-provoking visuals and slogans send the message that drugs

and alcohol are not the way to go. Thirty –eight students from St Bernard’s Learning

Center participated this year and thanks to Past Grand Knight Bill Runco who again as-

sisted in the judging. LastLast year a first place student won at the State level also!

Report of the 4th Degree Father McNelis Assembly #968

Happy New Year to all the Sir Knights in the

Father McNelis Assembly 968 and to your

families.

I want to thank the 4th Degree Color Corp for

being in attendance at the Memorial Mass at

St. Thomas More University Parish in Novem-

ber. The Corp adds so much to the Mass.

We will meet every fourth Wednesday

from January through June in 2017 at

the Lodge. Our next meeting will be on

Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00 PM.

The next 4th Degree Exemplification

will be on Sunday, June 4, 2017. It will

be held at the Pittsburgh Marriott North

in Cranberry. If you are a 3rd Degree member in good

standing and wish to receive information about taking your

4th Degree please contact me.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT Brothers, I hope that all enjoyed the

Christmas and New Year holidays and

the celebrations associated with them.

Have you gotten into the habit of writing

2017 on your important papers yet?

With the new year at hand, our council

will be preparing to conduct membership

appeals in the churches of our parishes

and be planning the Exemplification of the First De-

gree in the not so distant future. We will be looking to

confirm the dates at our upcoming meeting on Jan. 11.

Remember that our membership-building work is

much more than a simple general announcement at the

end of the Mass. The men who join and become active

members of the Knights of Columbus will be the ones

who hear our messages, have personal conversations

with our members, and respond to the call they hear in

their hearts.

Always be ready to talk to qualified men about what

knighthood can do for their lives. These are conversa-

tions that don’t begin like clockwork on a schedule;

they can happen at any time!

Please contact me or any of the officers if you will be

sponsoring new candidates for membership, or if you

can help share our message on our membership appeal

weekends.

MARCH FOR LIFE

FRIDAY, JAN. 27

Why not go this year!

See details on

Page 1.

I hope you and your family had a

great finish to 2016. Now, the first

quarter of 2017 is starting to fly by.

Hopefully, you’ve established a few

goals for this year. I’ve learned a

great tip regarding resolutions.

First, write them down. It’s not too

late if you haven’t already done

this. Commit your goals to paper

and post it someplace you will see

it often. Writing down a goal is the

first step towards achieving it. It

may not make sense at first, but I’m

sure you have heard stories of the

success this simple task can bring.

Whether your goal is to exercise

more, give more to charity, read

more or watch less television,

you’re more likely to accomplish it

if you write it down.

Second, resolve to have an expert

look at your finances. I recommend

that you have a team of experts help

you, and I would love to be the first

you sit with. Let’s schedule some

time to meet to-

gether, and I, your

professional

Knights of Colum-

bus insurance

agent, will provide

an “insurance check-up” (at no

cost!) that will evaluate any gaps in

your family’s life insurance protec-

tion. Now might be the perfect time

to fill those gaps, not later. Keep in

mind that unlike many other prod-

ucts, you don’t just need money to

obtain life insurance; you also need

good health, and no one knows

when your health could change.

Did I mention my check-up is free

of charge? When was the last time

you received something for free

that could provide value to you and

your family for generations? Con-

tact me today.
